You never know. She re-invents herself each era just like Madonna and Britney.

"You and I" flopped or underperformed everywhere but the US and pretty much murdered the era. She totally ****ed up the singles, because she wasn't consistent at all. They all sound very different, which is sort of problematic when trying to capture the attention of the public.
1989 Gay Anthem + 2020 version of Bad Romance + Cher-esque arena-rock-dance anthem + country rock mess + standard Fernando/Gaga track = all-over-the-place mess.
|
She released You And I for the fans. It was never going to be a #1 smash. As I said, if MTN was better it would have saved the era. I think Gaga though MTN would be a December club anthem, but it just wasn't good enough.
Gaga knew what she was doing with BTW, she just wasn't expecting MTN to flop. She really believed in MTN - I mean, she closed the BTWB with it! ![eek](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/eek.gif)

I'm sorry but if Gaga released SAB as her next single, that would be a huge step backwards. A bit like is she released Eh Eh as her next single.
It suited Paris though ![:)](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/smile.gif)
EDIT: Wait, why did you bring SAB into this anyway?

I want another Heavy Metal Lover type song on the next album, but that's about it. She shouldn't go back to TF or TFM sound either though. It needs to be something fresh that everyone will like.

The music video ****ed up the single release. If she did a simple music video that didnt have crazy antics, and a flawless performance at an awards ceremony (something as breathtaking as the Glitter In The Air performance), the song would have hit #1
|
It gained her some respect, yes. But what it did not do is help the Born This Way era whatsoever. As far as the public was concerned it was totally out of left field. Not only was it atypical of Gaga to release as a single at all, it didn't fit with the rest of the era. Plus it didn't exactly receive a ton of radio support, either.

I don't think that The Edge of Glory video was enough. Gaga just needed to express herself.
Anyway, as far as her next album goes as long as she doesn't:
have lyrics pertaining to: religion, gays, controversial topics,
AND IF SHE DOES NOT:
Write lyrics that are 1. hard to relate to (MTN) 2. hard to understand (MTN; el comino front or w/e)
But instead has lyrics that:
1. Are something that people can connect to easily without any effort on their part. 2. Have some sort of fun-side to it (EW from Judas comes to mind; those kinds of things).
And of course if they're dance-pop while still managing to sound fresh. I think the electro-house that Zedd is doing could be that for Gaga. She'll make wonderful house influenced tracks (similar to Kylie, except less campy; therefore, it'll have more success, especially on the States side).
|
Gaga can be so disappointing sometimes, because she comes so close to having the ability to make controversial songs work. Government Hooker was almost an iconic pop song that, given a few adjustments with the production (a harder-hitting beat like the remix we heard and a less boner-killing bridge and with less-messy lyrical layout), could have smashed hard. Judas, while I detest the song, was on its way to becoming a hit after the video was released before being abandoned in favor of TEOG.
She's just so bad at handling what are nearly good ideas. Oh well.
But yeah, Zedd. I'm interested in hearing what she can do with him. On one hand, I don't really like House music, but given that it's Gaga I believe it can go either way considering I didn't really like dance songs before Gaga did them either. I seriously hope she makes it work.
I think one problem with BTW was that rock music and modern pop music don't mix very well, so I'm hopeful with Zedd, given that his kind of music and pop music have a much better chance of clicking with one another. Also, the fact that HML was the last-recorded BTW song may hint at her future sound -- the kind which I would very much be here for.

Because since Fernando is Gaga's "main" producer now, and her also produced SAB, it shows that he can produce "FUN" and "SUMMER" type songs that aren't like the the over-produced messes that are in BTW.
She's basically saying that as long as Fernando and Gaga work together to make fun, easily related to, party songs, then she will continue to have success. If she continues to create tracks that are cacophonous, have filtered vocals, and are overproduced, then her whole career could be ruined.

NO.
All three were great, but she should've released at least more. Where the heck were "Monster" and "Dance in the Dark" in fall 2010? "Monster" especially; it would have been the perfect single. It was the perfect embodiment of the era, and to release it at a time when it could've been smashing around Halloween would be perfect.

If she decided to start making Katy Perry-esque summer songs, her career would die. Not commercially, but in everything that matters to her - fans, touring, impact etc.

Some of you Gaga fans can't pick good singles ![toofunny2](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/faces/toofunny2_zpsb54f2d2d.gif) Haha. but really. Monster has no hook. Sounds like album filler to be honest.
And some of you should realize if she makes brighter songs, it doesnt mean shes going back to The Fame. Her "dark" image is just getting old. She needs something in between dark and bright, like Poker Face. Poker Face had that tad bit of darkness to it, but also was appealing to a pop audience. ![:)](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Alejandro was a good single. It just didn't have a proper video (even though I personally loved it, it was not the right video for that kind of song).
Radio wouldn't have hopped on the Dance in the Dark train.
Monster would have been a great single, however. The middle 8 is amazing. + It's so catchy, and not hard to understand.
If she had taken a risk, I'd have released So Happy I Could Die, but ultimately, she should have went with Alejandro with a different video or with Monster.

agreed. i also agree with the gurl up there that SHICD would have been a better third single. Alejandro was probably the worst choice ![:o](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRLSmilies/redface_zpsfd99364e.gif) I think TFM era should have last 4 or five singles. Plus the Alejandro video pissed people off so much and I understand why....
1.Bad Romance
2, Telephone
3. Monster
4. Dance In The Dark
5.Speechless
Perfection.

I have always though it sounded like a filler, but Gaga was at her peak then. I think anything she released at that time would have smashed - it could have been the first ever Halloween anthem! And DITD should have got a December release.
I guess Gaga didn't want to release anymore singles because she wanted to distinguish the FM era from the BTW era, but seeing as she kept on touring on the Monster Ball, it was pointless to wrap up FM so soon.

I didn't say for her to make pop-fluff. I said for her to make a fun and summer-friendly song. There is a difference.
Plus, no offense to Katy, but her entire persona is everything Gaga isn't; therefore, a summer friendly and fun song that Gaga can do (that's not Katy-Perry like) would be something... like say, I don't know: Alejandro or like... Paparazzi.

The fact that Gaga performed Speechless everywhere and it went nowhere on iTunes before, during, and afterwards wasn't enough proof that that song was going to flop if actually released? ![psyduck](images/smilies/images/smilies/psyduck.gif)

Remember, TFM was only an EP. EP's don't have multiple singles...

I'm sorry but you can't exactly say she re-invents herself successfully until she releases a few more albums. Madonna has had 12 albums and is still going strong. Wait til Gaga's 12th album (or at least her 10th) before you start saying things like that.
