Good gracious God. I really wonder about this forum sometimes.
yeah I didn't even comment on his post. I mean just because Nicki and Rihanna are topping the charts don't mean there music is the best out there. So many black female artists get overlooked and it pisses me off. Why can't everyone score a hit like late 90s where u had so many genres in top 20. Just so frustrating
Nicki Minaj trys to be white, even in the RBMS video she lightens her skin. Not being racist, but when Rihanna tried to do this whole urban "thug" thing, her era went downhill. Nicki does dance music, dresses weird, lightens her skin in pictures & dies her hair bleach blonde and her era is doing quite well.
All my repsect for you has been LOST....You sound like the people commenting on the RBMS video "omgggg sheZZZ 2 white" shut up, its the lighting, make up etc...
I know it may seem like some drawn up theory but half of those artists listed haven't had a hit in this decade. And I'm wondering does this new digital age seem to be more opening to white females?
Yep it was all Steve Jobs, that known racist and misogynist, who created iTunes just to stop black women from having chart success.
It's all up to the public, if the public dont like the music then boo hoo. Get back to the studio and try again.
This is no race game.
But that is what these ladies are doing, hell some of them spend up to 2 years in the studio and come back and still don't get a hit. I just don't understand
I don't even think the music is the issue per say - just that the general public seems to identify more with white women I guess?

I think its the blonde hair. Its not regular dark blonde, but bleached platinum blonde.

Which black women seem to be working as hard and trying as hard as Rih and Nicki to be huge in pop right now?

U may think I'm some ignorant fool making a useless rant but this is becoming a problem. These artists are now going the independent route because their label aren't even giving them the time or day. So many black females make groundbreaking music but the label would rather push the less talented electro pop acts for a quick hit instead of pushing real artistry in the industry. No one wants to build a legend anymore its just sad

Yeah I guess. Rihanna and Nicki stay breaking racial barriers.

I agree with this for the most part.
I think it has more to do with the music a lot of them make race. You don't really see a lot of black female artists do electro-pop songs which is what's mainly in now.
Maybe it's not so much about their race, but that their music just isn't appealing enough to the general public and they happen to be black? Because there are equally enough white female artists that can't crack the top 10 either
But their sales aren't selling over 200k as their white contemporaries
In 2007 big hits like "Umbrella" by Rihanna, "Beautiful Girls" by Sean Kingston, "No One" by Alicia Keys, "Stronger" by Kanye West were dominating itunes selling over 200,000 per week.
"
In 2008 big hits like low "Low" by Flo Rida, "Live Your Life" & "What Ever You Like" by T.I., "Touch By Body" by Rihanna, Take A Bow & Disturbia by Rihanna, "Love in This Club" by Usher & "Lollipop by Lil Wayne dominated itunes.
In 2009 "Single Ladies" by Beyonce was huge on itunes. "Right Round" by Flo Ride was massive selling over 600,000 it's debut week on itunes and was #1 on itunes for 6 weeks selling over 300,000 per week.
I would type the other years but I'm lazy right now. But this alone is proof that itunes buyers are not racists.
That is true but now all R&B ladies are starting to do Electro-pop but I don't think it will make it in top 10. I mean Kelis and Cassie both had awesome records but failed to make it in the top 10? I really think iTunes buyers are somewhat racist?
Lets not act like Cassie,Kelis and Kelly R. have the same MANAGEMENT and PROMO PUSH behind them. The last time I checked,Kat deluna,Nicole scherzinger ...are all doing electropop, are white also.Things happen in the game because of who's with you,not who you are or what you are singing.
Which black women seem to be working as hard and trying as hard as Rih and Nicki to be huge in pop right now?
So many sis: Alicia, Kelis, Ashanti, Amerie, Cassie, Keyshia, Monica, etc - ALL have been working on music and aren't letting the current state of the industry keep them done. Just because they aren't in news, blogs, etc don't mean their not working on music. These ladies are grinding but the industry doesn't care. I mean almost half of them are going independent now and its a damn shame. I mean its just sad that they can't even get a a top 20 anymore.

Don't lump Ms.Alicia Keys with the likes of Ameriie, Ashanti and Monica, though.
