That's also not ALL that I said, either. I also said in that same post that Family Guy also basically took its basic structure from The Simpsons. Seth only changed the formula enough to not make it as immediately noticeable (Stewie being a talking baby, Meg being as dumb as everyone else). But then, take a look at what both shows' main families share: Both shows feature a dumb oaf of a father, a hot (or too hot for the father) wife, and a dumb as nails son. There is also the focal point of the show: The flashbacks and references. Granted, references are not something that one show has trademarked or anything, but take a look at some of the earlier Simpsons episodes and note that there were quite a few "flashback" sequences. Seth had to have been at least somewhat influenced by those flashbacks and the many Simpsons references over the years.
Again, though, like I said, I'm a fan of Family Guy. I'm also a fan of American Dad. (The Cleveland Show, not so much.) I'm not bashing the show. I'm only pointing out that there are quite a few similarities between the two shows.
And I'm not acting as if The Simpsons are guilt-free of their own copying. Hell, they have even acknowledged this. Multiple times. Here's one specific quote from famed Itchy & Scratchy creator, Roger Myers, Jr.:

Animation is built on plagiarism. If it weren’t for someone plagiarizing ‘The Honeymooners’, we wouldn’t have ‘The Flintstones’. If someone hadn’t ripped off ‘Sgt. Bilko’, there’d be no ‘Top Cat.’ Huckleberry Hound, Chief Wiggum, Yogi Bear? Hah! Andy Griffith, Edward G. Robinson, Art Carney.
