ok ok u got me, " thou that shall not be named" was brought up and i just stated some facts about "thou that shall not be named" my bad i see her in your favs ill stop, im all for the peace
Um, no. A sell-out is someone who completely abandons what they originally and genuinely stood for for something they don't in order to be successful.
As evident by her quote (which is not new information btw)
Quote:
I went to school for theatre. I took four years of my life and devoted it to theatre. I did that because my passion was acting. When I started rapping, I felt like I couldn't really be myself. When I started winning, I started feeling that I can be myself. I can do my accents, I can do my voices, I can do my faces, I can do costumes. I can now bring me to who, you know, people see as Nicki Minaj. I can now really bring me into it.
I don't have a problem with artists evolving and expanding, but when you decide to venture out of your comfort zone, and the first thing you latch on to is the most generic, trite radio sound and looking like a 3rd-rate Katy Perry reject, then you're gonna have to "look at ur life, look at ur choices". I HIGHLY doubt she would have received so much criticism if she decided to incorporate something fresh and exciting in her career.
Definitely a sellout, but you can't hate a bitch for making that money.
Thing is, she was extremely popular when she was rapping, and PF was a very successful album. The fact that she has to resort to making a half pop/half rap album is kinda stupid, but at least she gonna get the payoff (maybe)

she coudlnt just starve a new set of fans, that also support her, that was be completely ignorant and stupid -_- imo she fed both audiences, SHE'S Just that DIVERSE AND DEMANDED

Really? I think it's kind of cool. She's feeding two audiences at once and in one album and not only that but fans who love both pop and rap nicki get double pleasure. It's a smart move but you're right people will definitely see it as selling out.
People aren't calling her a sell out because she dresses like a clown now; that's fine since she likes doing the over the top wardrobe thing. What people are concerned about is her gearing towards pop A LOT faster than everybody was expecting. Pop has nothing to do with theater by itself. I get she wants to expand and have appeal to multiple audiences, so I'm not sure I would call it "selling out," but that's what people are having a problem with.
She's not denying "selling out" she just sees it as adding longevity to her career. I understand what she's saying and if it's what she wants to do, then more power to her.

Why would anyone want to skip half of their fave's album because it's opposite the genre they want from them?
I mean, since she was running with this idea, she shoulda had a double disc album.
She coulda pulled a Nelly and done a Sweat/Suit album thing.

i can agree w/ this intelligent response. people also didnt think that pop radio and pop fans would even be here for her this early in her career as well...also, they prob didn't think she was at a level to even construct such prodigious pop music, her pop records attract tons of attention!
