And please, what don't they think is a sellout? If someone from the "hood" were to move out of the hood, the "hood" would consider them a sellout.

Didn't know what I was doing but I put on a cape
Now it's which world tour should I go on today?
See, you told me I would lose but I won.
I might cop a million Jimmy Choo's just for fun.
Cause bitches couldn't take what's in me
Australia to Sydney
Might run up in Disney
Out in LA with Lindsay.
Got the eye of the tiger the lion of Judah
Now it's me and my time it's just me in my prime
Everything I tried to teach em' they gone see it in time.
Tell the bitches get a stick, I'm done leading the blind.
Got two shows tonight that's Brooklyn and Dallas
Then a private party at the Buckingham palace.
Which means I gotta fly like a movie no commercial
That's young money, cash money yeah, I'm universal.

If you look at interviews on YouTube from 2008, her interviews with DJ Vlad, and even looking at her interviews when she became mainstream she's always said that she wanted to venture outside of rap.
I mean at the end of the day, it's what people want to believe. People want to believe that she does the music she does now to sell records and there's nothing I can do about that.
But child, the hood is a damn joke. If the "hood" knew that I was in college right now they'd probably consider me a "sell out" for not sticking there. Child please.

You're completely clueless if you think that bubblegum **** Nicki is releasing is really her. I was a fan of hers at one point, probably before you even know who she was so don't come at me like I don't know what I'm talking about.

There are NUMEROUS people who came from the "hood", were able to become huge stars without selling out and completely ditching everything they stood for.
Jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie Smalls. ****, even Whitney Houston was from Newark (one of the most ghetto places alive ) And she managed to become one of the biggest most respected singers of all time without turning from Whitney Houston to Paula Abdul.
And At you thinking Nicki doesn't care about the "hood" She most definitely cares when she hops on to them Cash Money songs with Wayne and them talking all that gangsta, I pop bitches, "Nicki pop? Hahahah" nonsense. Growth/Evolution =/= turning into a replica of everything else out that's popular.

Whitney received a lot of criticism from her urban/black supporters for her sound. They felt she alienated her base and her sound was too mainstream.
It was an issue which made her seek other producers to gain back her urban fans for future albums.

I'm sure she did but I still don't think it was anywhere near as extreme at what Nicki's been doing. For one, Whitney was ALWAYS a singer. That already is less of a transition. For two, Whitney never started out on some extra ratchet, I'm so hood type of **** either.

Like I said, REAL NICKI MINAJ FANS know that the music she does now is the music she always wanted to do but never really had the courage to do because of the people around her at the time.
As for the people citing Biggie and 2Pac, good for them. I'm pretty sure that's the music they wanted to do all along. Not everyone is certain with what they want to do and some people have hidden desires and are afraid of acting upon them for fear of being ridiculed or judged.
I'm starting to sound like a broken record, so I'm going to cap this. You all believe she sold out, and her real fans know this is what she wanted to do all along. So there you have it folks.

they even have a good percentage of her album to ride to.. of course they're not going to be here for her whole discography.

So worth it, IREP. Good for you, man.

What kind of far reaching mess?
Why is this thread even still open?

atrl needs to stop with this "growth" mess. It's so damn overused on here. Just because someone does something different (and suck at it) isn't growth. How the **** is Nicki showing growth when her raps and lines are obviously ****** and weaker than they were when she first got signed? On all of the rap songs on Roman Reloaded, Nicki gave the worst verses on all of them and got slayed by all of the featured rappers (except 2chainz, ANYBODY can outrap him) and ALL of the pop songs on there sound the same... None of them are distincitive at all.
I have no problem with Nicki trying to be versatile, but she isnt doing it right. Instead of being a rapper who occasionaly sings, she's becoming a pop girl who ocassionaly raps. Look at Drake. Take Care has a GREAT balance of pop and hip hop on there (plus with GREAT rap lines). She needs to get some advice from him.

So are you indicating that people that aren't from the hood don't do drugs? are you assuming that people who aren't from the hood don't get murdered? what a ****ing dumb ass post.

Ur right. Very right. I could see if she put as much of her creative effort into the rap songs like she does the pop but it's not balanced. A lot of the pop songs on the new album sound alike with the dance breaks+vocal delivery. She's trying to please everyone, and although it seems like she has it all under control, she doesn't. She's literally split in two instead of a fusion.

Your ignoring the point.
The "hood" is all about gang crime and drugs. Its only lowlife hoodrats like the thread starter who think its something that should be represented by black celebrities.
If Nicki was white she could do these pop songs and noone would have a problem. Because shes black shes a sellout and isnt representing the hood anymore. Its pathetic and is a racial stereotype supported by black people against their own. Im saying this generally of course, but its Nickis black fans that are saying shes a sellout and too commercial .. they want her doing mixtapes forever.
