ATRL: Has Katy Perry's Success This Era Been Well Deserved?

- California Gurls, Teenage Dream, Firework and E.T. didn't have discounts.
- E.T. featuring Kanye was launched as as single, and not as a remix of the single.
- Last Friday Night reached #2 and Top 5 for weeks before having any discount or remix
- The One That Got Away reached Top 9 with no remix or discount.
Are you still using the remix/discount excuse??

No, because her image is too focused on being a hot skinny girl next door. That's not how it should be, and popstars should be able to sell even if she had more weight, but no one can deny that many pop-music buyers are superficial.
But, Katy certainly isn't the only popstar who would lose fans if she became overweight. Rihanna, GaGa, Ke$ha as well.

The question is, is all this success deserved, or is it mainly because of her label / producers / radio ect.

In what world does she NOT deserve her success? ![rolleyes](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

It's not weird that Katy has had so many number ones. So many Pop girls could do it if they had the right luck. I know Rihanna could easily do it if it weren't for the rushed albums. She has the momentum this era and has worked hard for it.

The fact that you can only add another two dates of Promo in addition to the Ellen show proves my point exactly. Compare this to Gaga's promo that she does and she completely eclipses Katy's schedule, while is probably just one of the many reasons why Gaga has had such a huge cultural impact compared to Katy, who is known by many people I know as 'the girl that sings that catchy song' ![Nicole](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/3b9ed532.gif)

i mean honestly no hate on Katy because I love her and I like her music, but here's the thing, you would expect all of her singles hit Top 10, maybe Top 5, that's what I expected obviously, but ALL of them hitting #1? (that is if TOTGA hits #1) that's what leaves people with a question mark ![confused](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/confused.gif)
|
Well... They were all deserved. ![Alexz](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ec20fb7f.gif) Apart from TOTGA (if it hits #1)

It wouldn't matter for Kelly as much as other popstars.
I honestly think at this point, Kelly has more adult fans than teenage/kid fans, & with a more adult fanbase, image/weight doesn't matter as much. Then again, Stronger has a lot of teenage-friendly pop on it, so I'm not totally sure, but does that make any sense?

Stop.
Would Gaga sell without make up, costumes, weird videos, etc?
Katy is beautiful, writes her songs, she's smart and has one of the best labels.
She's not lazy, she has promoted a lot her first four singles, then LFN and TOTGA came with the discounts, the remixes and her label want that record, and of course she's not going to be against them and she will enjoy breaking them. At the end of the day, people is buying because they want to.
You are just pressed.
Saying her songs are smashes because her music is catchy, there are 322343 other catchy songs charting and they never made it.

and yet with the little promo she has done to TOTGA as you are saying she is still in the Top 10 with the song (and not talking about the remix). ![Nicole](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/3b9ed532.gif)

agreed. it's all about "the looks" now, which sucks, I miss when it was all about "the music"
Anyway, back to Katy, I mean it's shown in everything she's done that she's a hard worker in the industry, so the success that she's getting is reasonable to a certain point, that certain point includes the "last minute plans" to release a remix to boost sales I 100% agree with the lame remixes that have like 30 or 40 seconds of hip hop and then the song is the same, that is a little sad sometimes.

Kelly still has more teenage fans then adults. She was called the "Girl next door" for a long time.

So now katy's success is solely based on the fact that she isnt obese? Or maybe it's cause her songs are radio friendly, listener friendly, and she has a great personality. She's not some freakyass girl who dresses up as a man and recycles Madonna and Whitney tunes from the 80's and calls the. Her own work? (no shade intended ![eli's_rhythm](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/eli_zps0932edf9.gif) )
