Shakira has officially begun work on her 8th studio album, and it’s not going to be another Latin-rock affair — Shakira’s reinventing herself as a club queen!
While she hasn’t started recording yet, Shakira’s been having meetings and listening sessions with some of the top dogs in the dance world, starting with Dutch DJ Afrojack. According to Shakira-Media, she’s also planning to listen to material from some of top forty’s biggest hitmakers, like Dr. Luke, RedOne, Max Martin, and Benny Blanco, as well as world-renowned DJ Tiesto.
But don’t worry – Shakira isn’t going completely generic mainstream on us. She’s also enlisted underground New York club queen Venus X to help with the album, almost like a creative adviser, who will help her tap into dance sounds that haven’t been butchered to death on the Hot 100 just yet.
“I’m sending her a lot of hyrbrid-oriented stuff—Turkish reggaaton, a lot of kuduro that sounds like African trance,” Venus X tells The Fader. “Hopefully I’ll be able to introduce her to things that are working on the dance floor so she can translate and re-interpret them for universal pop.”
“Shakira wants to make dance music. She’s always been ahead of the curve. With “Ojos Asi,” she was doing Arabic instrumentals with Spanish vocals.”
The pair will hit the studio at the end of this month to begin working on new music.
Shakira’s noticeably upped her musical output recently, probably in a bid to keep her crown as one of the world’s most successful pop artists. While we used to have to wait several years in between Shakira albums, 2009′s She Wolf and 2010′s Sal el Sol were released within 12 months of each other, and now she’s already working on her next disc.
Last year’s Sale el Sol felt like more of an effort to snatch her Latin fanbase back after the more pop-orientated She Wolf fizzled. She Wolf was released at an awkward time when American music was really still transitioning over from pop and R&B to more dance-based sounds, and it didn’t help that former Epic Records head Amanda Ghost pushed the album back almost two months just to add the dated Timbaland tune “Give It Up To Me” onto the tracklisting. Now that Shakira’s better prepared and dance club beats are all the craze worldwide, this new album could be her most universally successful album since Laundry Service.

She shouldn't rush it, but then at the same time, she should definitely release the first single this year. Hell, if the qualities there, release the whole album in November!

If it's a compilation album, then releasing it in the Autumn is possible.

I like how the article is penned together and the pic they used, but really they just used the rumours of the sites we already got info from, like Shakira Media
And the thing about SES being more of an effort to snatch her Latin fanbase back, I wrote that on her Wikipedia page so they probably took that from there aswell
I pray to god that the article is from a GREAT reputable site. That would make it seem much more legit!

Is questionable. Her Latin fan-base has been there since 1993. There's a reason why Sale El Sol sold over 2 million, especially with no promo.

Well yeah, but it's true if her Latin fanbase bought let's say, 700 k of She Wolf, many more of them bought SES it's just a much better album overall. And she has toured like CRAZY in Latin America, so I hope they feel more closer to her again. I think with the whole She Wolf/GIUTM they felt left out.
but again, I hope the songs are in English, which seems to be the plan CAN'T WAIT. Maybe Whenever, Wherever 2.0

Hopefully, she passes up on his material. He's extremely generic and I don't want my gal being a part of that.

It's unfortunately one of the biggest misconceptions that people have on Shakira. She has not abandoned her Latin fan -base. It's those people that say that aren't even fans to begin with.

I gotta say, as much as I feel comfortable in her critical acclaim and song writing skills, I'm not comfortable enough for her to work with him, yeah. She doesn't need a #1 on Billboard Hot 100 if it is from him. Nuff' said.

Yeah, it's like they just were looking for someone to blame and she got all the blame. Just because she is Latin American doesn't mean she belongs to Latin American people only, and I think they felt that sense of pride with her.

A lot of people were mad, especially her contemporaries because she was able to successfully crossover. A lot of other artists tried to replicate her success, but failed to do so.
