I saw this today and I didn't know how to feel.
It was so awful but it didn't even have any cheap laughs in it.
I thought I was gonna die.

A pretty clear review ![deadbanana](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/bananas/deadbanana2_zpsd45da7d4.gif) I'm glad I don't have any kids or younger siblings and won't have to see it.

Are you seriously trying to claim a 100 milli opening for a movie that will be lucky to gross its budget? DEAD @ Rih getting more credit for BS than Katy for Smurfs when they didn't even give Bajan girl a line in the trailer, and she is hardly even shown. Her role is more like a glorified cameo, and they might not even use her for promotion.

You don't know what you're talking about.
Battleship is being built up as an "event film". It'll do at least 70Mill opening weekend, based on male-centric marketing and brand recognition alone. It'll make $400Mill+ worldwide when all is said and done, and that's nothing to be laughed at.
As for Katy being used for promotion, it's because they're very ****ing close to the release date to the film. OBviously they figured out that interest needed to be piqued, so they decided to use one of the most recognizable women in America as their marketing tool. The reason Rihanna didn't have any lines in the teaser trailer probably has something to do with the fact that IT'S A ****ING TEASER TRAILER. You only saw two flashes of Alex Skarsgard, and hardly any screen time from anyone except Taylor Kitsch (who is far less relevant than Rihanna). Trust me, by the time Battleship is out you'll be seeing Rihanna everywhere. ****, they'll get Rihanna to do an exclusive song for it.

Smurfs was directed by talking critter specialist Raja Gosnell, and its opening day rated higher than Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed but far behind the first Scooby-Doo among his other movies.
Don't count out Cowboys & Aliens just yet. With an estimated $13 million on nearly 5,500 screens at 3,750 locations, it was so close to The Smurfs on Friday that it could still pull out a weekend win. Claiming a first-place opening, though, would only slightly mitigate an otherwise disappointing gross for a movie that was trying desperately to be a blockbuster. Cowboys's Friday start was effectively on par with Super 8 ($13 million including Thursday previews) and behind Battle: Los Angeles ($13.4 million) and District 9 ($14.2 million).
If Smurfs and Cowboys follow the trajectories of past similar movies, their opening weekends would come in at around $36.5 million and $34.5 million, respectively.

At least it's better than Burlesque's opening
EDIT: Also, just to add: The Smurfs had a per-theater average of $10,663. About $1,000 high than Cowboiz & Ail-yen's $9,653 per theater average.
America has spoken: We want poorly written cash-ins!
