Nicole is right. You have to be smart to reach a certain level of fame.
And have you ever heard Katy Perry talk?
"I’m completely outrageous and I’ll do anything for attention!"
"I know gay men that are more of a man than some of the men I slept with."
“It’s not a negative connotation. It’s not, ‘you’re so gay,’ like, ‘you’re so lame,’ but the fact of the matter is that this boy should’ve been gay. I totally understand how it could be misconstrued or whatever … It wasn’t stereotyping anyone in particular, I was talking about ex-boyfriends.”
But Katy sucess is weird.
She hasnt really made an impact on music/ pop culture She just making hits.
You never really hear about her Especially in the UK only time you hear about her, is when Russell Brand is mentioned.
She hasnt made an impact on pop culture like gaga, beyonce & Rihanna
And her album isn't selling well. It's not even reached 4 million after all most a year and all them hits which is a shame because TD album is great i LOVE it i can see why she is getting all them #1. But there easy forgetable except Fireworks.
Just my opinon on how i look at her sucess.
Are you serious, Katy Perry hasn't made an impact on music/pop culture?
She's by far one of the most popular stars on the planet right now, come on...
By the way, she's outselling your fave in Billboard 200 too this week with an older album.
Rihanna has been constant media/music/celebrity fixture for years now. No doubt she'll be one of the most remembered popstars of the 00s/10s in years to come. Katy could get there someday too if she keeps this up, & maybe adds a little more on to her worldwide success (that seems to be a complaint of haters, that her worldwide success is not as big as some of her other pop competitors).
Rihanna is impact. People can say all they want about her talent & what not but the fact is that she WILL be remembered.
Loud has sold 5 million WW, no one is mad. It's still selling almost 50K a week. Rihanna is more than merely US sales.

You're definitely not smart dude, to not even comprehend a post. I can't.
It has nothing to do with how is her personality, it has to do with business. she's been playing the right cards and the Teenage Dream era has been flawless.

It has sold almost 5 million albums WW, and didn't it double the other girl sales in the UK too? n still selling 50k weekly with not one, but two current flop singles?

Don't belittle Teenage Dream's sales, which are very nice for a second album.

Yeah, agree. But her fans are acting like Rihanna have accomplished all that on her 1st or 2nd album.Just booom. They need to give her some time.Doesn't mean that she will become huge WW,she can flop hard and all but let's not make fast conclusions.
I guess tying all time Michael Jackson Billboard record from 1987 and becoming first female artist ever with 5#1' off an album is usual thing, nothing
I'm shocked some people think that's an ordinary feat accomplished every day. and some try to devaluate the feat because Michael () did in 1987 and now this is 2011. besides if LFN hit #1 she would be the only female in history to achieve that. and all four of her singles above the 4 million mark.

Records are made to be broken someday.
Yeah,LFN still needs to hit #1. But I'm sure she will get there.

Rihanna didn't debut when her genre of music was at its height neither did she have Dr. Luke produce on her album or 1st single at that.

She's one of the most popular stars in the world, yes, but her singles success is concentrated in the US and while they have had success elsewhere, her impact on pop culture is nothing compared to her contemporaries like Lady Gaga and Beyonce. She may be slaying the US singles chart, but she lacks a defining pop culture moment like Baby One More Time for Britney or Bad Romance for Lady Gaga. Her videos, like her entire image, are safe and sometimes cute but they are not groundbreaking or memorable. Katy is aiming for the high fructose rush of Dr.Luke-produced bubblegum pop with a few mentions of popsicles, tight jeans, and *****, and she's getting singles success for it. She's not trying to be innovative or risky; that's not her image.

The beginning of their careers can't be compared fairly. Rihanna saw similar success to what Katy is having now with GGGB. They just have different paths. Katy was fortunate enough to explode on popularity with an earlier album.
Lmao , i don't know why you act like she's equaled MJ record tho, party rock anthem are probably going to block her
Radio beg to differ. Of course they have advantage on iTunes.
1st single off an album that didn't sell nothing>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>5th single off almost 2x Platinum album

Leading her pop music career with I Kissed a Girl was safe? Are you kidding me?
