Sure, just cause it doesn't float your boat doesn't mean it's not good.

Have you even checked their ages? Most of them aren't even 18

At the end of the day, it all comes down to musical taste. While there is a list, so to speak, of artists that all of us find common ground on (Madonna, Michael, etc.), we can't expect everybody to listen to and like what we deem "good" music. Pop music makes up about 25% of my iTunes library, but most people would assume that I only listen to pop because I stan for two pop artists. And honestly, if Britney and Rihanna quit making music, I wouldn't listen to pop music at all. I would enjoy ATRL so much more if members were a little open-minded when it comes to artists outside of their comfort zone, but I don't see that ever happening. Most ATRL members enjoy nothing but pop music, and that's fine. I'm just tired of the whole "that isn't real music" ******** when it comes to less relevant or different artists.

Yes, and he called them irrelevant, if I remember correctly.

GET HIM.
But they all weren't from the noughties, right? You did give him some of her 90s stuff, the Deconstruction era, right? RIGHT???!?!?

What gets me is not the fact that people only listen to the mainstream - most of you guys are kids, I get that - but that people are obsessed with MEDIOCRITY. Like, all of the people who are their best day are C-list.
Like, I love you Stepfon ... but it surprises me that people still look forward to Hilary Duff.
Or Ashley Tisdale.
Or that people actually think Who We Are or Goodbye Lullaby are listenable - and more than that, BETTER than (good) pop.
Like, come the **** on? THOSE are the people that need to grow the **** up.
But, like they say -- there's a time and a place for everything.

Everyone has different tastes in music. And while I'll admit that it can be irritating when there are people who don't know or respect truly great/deserving artists, how much a person likes a certain album or artist is subjective, and there's nothing wrong with liking any kind of music. In all honestly, this thread is just mostly pretty obnoxious.

The real question is, why would ATRL be trusted? Why have that expectation from a pop music forum frequented by kids?

Exactly. And a further point: this a pop music forum, that emerged out of the "TRL" era. I think everybody should know what kind of music is going to be most discussed and beloved here (especially now that it's dominating the mainstream). It doesn't mean that lots of members don't love and respect other genres and artists, but ATRL doesn't give them much of a place to be discussed.

Your music tastes are just as narrow as anyone elses here. I tried to get you to listen to a Muse song and you turned it off barely 20 seconds in and called it "emo crap".
And stop acting like the Grammys are representative of quality. Teenage Dream was nominated for Album of the Year and it was panned by critics.

Cause I dont like Muse? I think they suck, end of story. You dont like Tina Turner.

Boring it one thing, but to call it poor?

Anyway, "21" is really liked here and "4" is boring for them because they are not used to see Beyoncé like this, the awards don't nominate "real artists", they nominate who's hot right now, there's no denying in that . And you can't say pop music isn't "real music".
I agree with you in some way, while I love ATRL I could love it more if we discussed way more than mainstream pop music, being a lover of almost all genres and having a diverse taste, I would love to have some discussions that wouldn't always include the stan wars of the "top 4 girls" right now.

They might nominate them but they rarely ever win, last year people ranted about Katy being nominated for AOTY when that was clearly for ratings, look who won? A rock band!

People's music taste will change as they age...or at least I really hope so. I'm not saying that my music taste is highly refined, but at least I can tell a difference between something trashy (which can be fun) and serious music.
A good litmus test can be asking people what song they'd choose if they could listen to only one song till the rest of their lives. You know they have a messed up taste when people say something along the lines of Tik Tok (read any hit pop song of the last several years)...you'd want to choose something that will challenge you and bring out different emotions as you listen to the music...most likely a classical piece.
