I don't see why people can't just give an answer that is actually a poll option... The poll is not asking who is the most-involved female pop star in the creation of her music of all time, it's asking who is the most-involved female pop star in the creation of her music out of the options given...
I answered GaGa. She writes, produces and makes a lot of creative decisions (on the single releases, etc).
Lady Gaga, of course. She does more than show up to the studio, listen to pre-recorded demos, and pick the ones she likes the most. Something else I like is that she goes out to find her own set of workers. I have never heard of DJ White Shadow until now, and I am sure the same goes for many other monsters. As mainstream artists belong to their label regardless, I think it is safe to say Gaga has a great amount of control. I mean they allowed her to release Born This Way as the lead, which could have gone either way. So this whole arguement that Patrick made is just....ugh. The question is who is the MOST.
Out of that list, Kesha would be second. She is writes for herself, writes for others (Britney included), and etc.
Katy Perry wrote and composed Thinking Of You (one of my favourite songs of all time) without any help from a song-writer or producer hired by her record label, but Lady GaGa has a massive input on the creation of her music so I cannot pick.
Kesha second, she seems very involved with the songwriting and has **** loads of unreleased tracks after like, one album, she's obviously working hard at it.
Basically, for anyone upset by my assumptive post, I just was just hoping that a few of the obnoxious posters who are calling people out for voting for the wrong people would get off their high horses and stop operating under the assumption that there's only one acceptable choice in this poll. Yes, some put in more effort than others and thus it seems sensible that one or two choices should yield more votes than everyone else, but we can't really expect every stan to admit that their fave isn't as involved as Lady Gaga, nor should every person have to make such an admission if they honestly believe Rihanna or Katy Perry or Ke$ha is more involved creatively.
So it just struck me as really arrogant to see kids acting so off-put because someone would dare imply that, for example, Britney has had an active role in determining the creative direction her work takes. She's probably involved in different ways than say, Ke$ha or Gaga, but she has some visionary tendencies and exerts some creative control when it comes to choreography she has done, or music videos she has filmed, or songs she has pushed to be included on her albums, and so on and so forth.
That said, I did vote for Gaga.
You've only gotten better since becoming a mod.
Although I do tend to think that there really is only one "acceptable" answer here. You don't have to love GaGa to admit she's in control of her work.
But here's the real deal, each of these girls are involved in the creative process in a different way, and at the same time, NONE of our faves are as involved as we like to think, and yes, that applies both to girls that are considered "artists" and the girls that are considered "puppets".
Does your fave have production credits under her belt? She doesn't actually know **** about production. She doesn't know her way around Pro Tools, she can't program an amazing sounding synth, she'd be lost in the control room of a recording studio. There's are reason Dr. Luke and RedOne are paid top dollar to take care of the production side of our favorite hits, the girls we love to over-praise wouldn't have a damn clue what to do if left alone on the other side of the studio. If you're proud of your fave's production credits, keep in mind that at the most she suggested to real the masterminds behind the operation that the beat should be louder or that the bassline should sound funkier... and that's not really something that anyone actually deserves credit for suggesting.
Proud of your fave's writing talents? She didn't do it alone, even if she's the only one receiving writing credit. She didn't.
Proud of your fave's visionary approach to music videos or performance attire? Yeah, she might have come up with a general concept, but of course the execution was left to someone else and chances are that the finished product ended up being a lot more impressive than what your fave originally had in mind.
Etc.
I 100% agree, once again.
If I'm looking for real artistry and personnal involvement, I'm not gonna listen to pop music.
What I'm interested in, in that kind of music, is the voice of the singer, how she delivers her songs, her versatility & tastes.
Have you ever wondered why most pop singers completely sold out to get into the industry ?
Because no one was interested by what they wanted to do, in the first place.
It's sad that heir vision was shunned for something much more caricatural & disposable.
I'm not saying these women are talentless. It would be wrong & insulting to imply such a thing.
But it's all a lie. Each image target a specific audience (the trashy party girl, the tomboy, the different "artsy" one etc), lyrics are cringe worthy most of the time and get swallowed by the producer's work (which is why I don't understand those who pride themselves that their fave co-write such bullsh*t). Also, you never noticed how the "songwriter" thing seems to reassure the insecure pop fan ? As if it made it more legitimate to like something that is widely perceive as a guilty pleasure ? Sales points right here, folks ! Thus the "manufactured" pill is easier to swallow.
In reality, records company don't need their input and everything is under control.
