I do think the term "American" as in "from the United States" is subtly offensive. If people from the US call themselves Americans just because they were born in the US, then that means that the rest of the people from the Americas are not American, or not as American as people from the US.

The problem is that "united state-ian" doesn't have a very nice ring to it.
If im referring to, its the USA or America, if im telling someone where im from, its the US or ‘The States'
I dont think of America as a continent, its South America and North America, two continents making up the New World
Sometimes it slips, but 99.99999999% of the time I say the US. These 50 states don't summerize or represent what America truly is, so this country doesn't deserve that tittle.
No. I call it "Estados Unidos" and correct everyone who calls it America explaining them that America is a continent, and they then go "oh right" and start calling it correctly.
