Celeb News: Madonna calls out artists for not getting political

If you notice, the most creative and talented artists are all political/opinionated.
MJ, Madonna, Prince, Lady Gaga, George Michael, etc. They spoke up on current issues facing their times. She's not saying "Hey you better support Hillary/Trump" and let the world know. But a lot of artists these days play both sides. They want to be "in" and "relatable" but when it comes down the core issues of the world, they go silent to keep a buck. And that's from ALL of Hollywood. Rather liberal or conservative. (That's why the whole "Ugh Hollywood is elite and liberal, and doesn't get Middle America" is pure ********. We don't know Hollywood's true intentions tbh." The lack of diversity in entertainment speaks volumes as well.

This.
Stupid celebrities voicing stupid opinions to stupid people.
Isn't that how reality tv star Trump became president-elect?

I love how smart she is. The way she expresses her opinions make me want to sit at her feet and listen to her all day

RG: What do we do now?
I feel like I'm already doing it to a certain degree anyway and have been doing it. But I have to get way more vocal and become a little bit less mysterious. What I find really astonishing is how quiet everybody is in my industry. I mean, nobody in the entertainment business except for maybe a handful of people ever speak out about what's going on. Nobody takes a political stance or expresses an opinion.
RG: Why do you think that is?
They want to maintain a neutral position so they can maintain their popularity. I mean, if you have an opinion and people disagree with you, you might not get a job. You might be blacklisted. You might have fewer followers on Instagram. There are any number of things that would be detrimental to your career. Everyone's really afraid. Because it doesn't affect their daily life yet, no one's doing anything about it.
Oh wow this ****ing tea!! she clocked most of the industry but I also think a lot of them were trump supporters too that's why they chose to stay silent cuz puiblicly endorsing Trump would've been career suicide.

People like Taylor and Janet were the smart ones. Both candidates sucked and I applaud them for not getting involved.

with all due respect, nobody cares about Janet's opinion, she's a non-factor in American Pop culture.

The ironic & hypocritical thing about everyone saying that Taylor should share her political views is that you would all DRAG her to the PITS if her political views weren't the same as your own.
You want her to speak up on things, but only if it's on your terms.
She is a person and has her own freedom to choose (or to not choose) to speak up on whatever she wants.

It's a bit scary how obsessed some of you are with Taylor's political stance.
Hell, even if she were to voice her opinions 99% of you would drag her anyway if she didn't agree with everything you did.
And honestly all those celebs saying they hated Trump is the exact reason he won.

Are they just good enough to take money from and say **** it? If you have the platform use it, even if it's just giving words of comfort or encouragement.

I agree with Madonna, however, it really depends on the artist or celebrity. By that I mean, no one, and I mean no one, wants to hear Katy Perry talk about politics. Don't take this the wrong way, but she's not a smart woman, and not all that articulate (just watch her interviews). No one wants to hear Beyoncé talk about politics (and she knows that, and that's why she still hasn't spoken out openly about politics). No one wants to hear Justin Bieber talk about politics. No one wants to hear Kim Kardashian talk about politics. No one wants to hear Diplo talk about politics. The list goes on. It's no secret that many, many, celebrities are very, very stupid.
Now, that being said, the smart celebrities do have some sort of small responsibility to say something on important issues. Madonna uses her intelligence and power to speak out on very important topics. Taylor Swift is smart and articulate but remained a little too quiet. Justin Timberlake will always keep his mouth shut because he's a pawn of the industry, an artist who uses Black culture but won't acknowledge any political struggle pertaining to Black Americans. Interestingly, no one ever calls out Ellen DeGeneres for her relatively quiet stance. She may do a generic, tv-friendly-for-soccer-moms "Trump is cray" joke, but Ellen has a huge platform and hasn't spoken on the issues strongly enough—she did make sure to call Kathy Griffin and complain about being in her book last year, though. In any case, actors tend to be a little smarter than musicians. And I do feel that actors are doing the heavy lifting in terms of speaking out politically: Angelina Jolie, Kerry Washington, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Kesha, Viola Davis, et cetera.
In conclusion, yes, I agree with Madonna that more of Hollywood needs to speak up, however, if you're a
stupid person—and many celebrities are—or have a silly image, no wants to hear your "thoughts on the issues."

You sound dumb as hell. Being articulate & being intelligent are too different things. You can have an opinion on issues, but don't possess the language to articulate your thoughts the way someone with a Ph.D can, but that doesn't mean you can't speak about politics. Politics is the most talked about subject on earth damn near, & everyone with an opinion can not articulate that well. & there are more way to take a stand than givin a damn interview. I for one always wanted to hear Beyoncé speak about some issues so speak for yourself. You sound ignorant as hell.

Some artists care more about their billboard positions than using their platform to help others.

I agree with her. If you care about freedom of expression, if you believe in equal rights for everybody than your a political person.

not everyone should be talking about politics, especially when you're pushing for another lying politician. If I was a celebrity, I'd only voice my opinion on laws and stuff that matter. I ain't raising my voice for any ugly politician and lose my potential fans over these nobodies, na-ah!
with that being said, there are celebrities that are smart, like Vin mentioned in the first page, and Madonna is one of those celebrities! Her raising her voice leaves an impact unlike some other irrelevant and stupid celebrities that no one cares about!

Maybe I'm too cynical but i find the majority of celebrity views on politics & issues that affect us "normies" as disingenuous & calculated to make their brand look good so i wish they'd shut up. Sort your own house (the entertainment industry) out first.
