I think the point Jan was making is that ISIS have continuously said that they will send undercover fighters disguised within the waves of migrants and refugees from the Middle East. Because of that, it does make sense to make sure that the people who you allow to come into your country are properly vetted. For reasons of national security, that makes sense to me.
Now, of course Trump's rhetoric takes it way too far, but I was defending Jan's post, not Trumps

I'm talking from a rational point of view. I simply reject accepting some rhetoric because it seems right but, in fact, silences people because the truth might be offensive. I don't support racism, homophobia or anything like that. I don't support everything Trump says, some stuff is not okay. And trust me, I hate Pence as much as Clinton supporters. I'm just saying what I would get behind. Once there is a possibility to weed out the trash, there's no point in further stopping Muslim immigration, provided it benefits the interests of the American state and people.

Banning 'Muslims' sounds so dumb. How can you even tell someone's Muslim? They can remove their hijab (so many Muslims don't wear it anyway) and say they're not Muslim. It's not something that's written in their passport. Will he say 'No! you're brown you MUST be from Islam' There are many white and white passing Muslims too. Ugh I just cannot believe we're talking about this in 2016

I thought his actual argument was to put a temporary halt on immigration from Arab countries with known problems with extremism until they developed a system to properly vet applications from those countries.
Of course, true to Trump form, he took a reasonable stance and injected it with steroids until it turned into a Muslim ban
