I'm so in! So I understand that I send 25 artists in, but do I send in a song for each of them also? And if not, how do the songs get picked for each artist during the battles?

So, what happens if, after the ten groups of ten are selected, they'll play on a weekly basis.
So, next week is Week Zero, when I announce the top 100.
I'll also announce the first weeks contestants. For example:
Quote:
Robyn
Kristinia Debarge
Arcade Fire
Chrisette Michele
Ladytron
Namie Amuro
Florence + the Machine
Amerie
Wynter Gordon
Shinedown
|
Let's say they're the first week. Everyone will send in TOP FOURS - their four favorite songs by each artist that wish to submit for. (I'd submit top fours for Robyn, Arcade Fire, Amerie and Flo - not well-versed at all in anybody else's catalog.)
The top four selection is tricky though; you have to think strategically, and vote for songs you love - but could also be accessible to others.
Does that help explain things?

I understand the "cherry pick" thing, but how do the rest of the 100 come into play? Whoever gets the most points on each person's list? Cause the way you made it sound, the staples were pretty much guaranteed, so I didn't put any of them on my top 25.
This game sounds fun, but could you maybe outline the entire game in full, instead of just each round as we go? I'm kinda confused how it'll fully work once the Top 100 is decided.

Well, basically, that's the idea. The problem is exactly what you stated in the last part of the quote. I found myself leaving off two or three artists simply because I thought that other people would vote for them anyway. What if everyone else is thinking that way? Then some deserving artists get left behind.

Trust me, the staples won't be left behind - people are still listing Rihanna and Britney high.
Okay, entire game in short shrift:
Top 100 is decided by you all's votes. Then, as I explained, I present Week 1's top ten - you send top fours for all the artists you want to in that group of ten.
First Round: 10 weeks. Week 1's artists play, and you send top fours in for Week 2, etc and so forth.
Now, since the second edition of this game was a fail, I'm going to continue what I did there - every artist's first choice plays first. The thinking is, an artist's fourth best song should be enough to move win, right? That is, if they are the best of the best ...
Second Round: Highest 32 vote-getters move on, don't have to send top fours in anymore. They're divided into six groups of six.
Third Round: Top 12, divided into three weeks of four
Last Round: Top 3 - whoever wins that round wins the game.
How do artists score points? Each player listens to all the week's songs, and ranks them - their favorite gets ten points, their least favorite gets one point.

So, essentially each artist is only represented by 4 songs for the entire game?

Well, if there were more than four ... this game would take like six months!
But, it's a lot of fun - and who knows, if we finish it this time, maybe another round in the fall?

Here's an interesting question/dilemma: Say, if someone votes for Kelly Rowland ... would Dilemma be able to be in their top four for her?
Or, if someone votes for Ciara, would they be able to list her collaboration with Field Mob, "So What?"
What say you, future gameplayers?

I think if that's what the people vote for, then it's fine. Especially for someone like Nicki Minaj, who many consider a feature to be one of her best songs (Monster).

Maybe more rock/hip-hop fans voting? The list so far is becoming proportionally biased in favor of pop ...

Well, this is a pop forum. Is that not to be expected? I mentioned some rock acts. I could change it if necessary, but most of the rock bands I like are way passed their heyday. I didn't really get into the whole indie rock scene when it was popular a few years ago, it was too pretentious even for me.

You know what I find funny? The indie scene of the UK in the mid-Noughties was so opposite of what was happening in America - and so, so inferior.
Man, the UK scene from 04-07 sucked. Girls Aloud and Sugababes were truly the only highlights.

Don't remind me.
I think the turnaround started in 2006 though, Amy and Lily changed everything.
