Kelly is still a queen though.

To act like Kelly had it easy and had success handed to her on a platter from Idol is a bit ridiculous. It's not like she woke up one day, auditioned, and skyrocketed to superstardom. She was hustling just like any other struggling artist...she was living in LA, working multiple jobs, hustling to try and make it for 2 years. Idol was a brand new show, and it was her door in the industry just like other artists' door might be getting discovered at a show, auditioning for a label, etc.
The show gave her advantages other new artists didn't have, but also many big disadvantages that other artists didn't have.
Kelly just had different advantages and disadvantages compared to other artists starting out. Advantage: Showcasing her talent to the country and building a fanbase before releasing an album.
Disadvantage: Being seen as a hack, a "karaoke singer", not a real artist, and having tons of people telling her what kind of artist she needed to be....that's what she's saying in this interview, people were so rude to her. She had to work her ass off to prove herself as an artist. Idol doesn't guarantee a successful career, given the small few out of 15 seasons that are relevant.
