And wouldn't "the relationship with god" more of what Protestants practice? Isn't the rejection if the Pope and Institutionalized religion more of a Protestant ideology.

To be a Christian you have to be born-again. Many Catholics are born-again and therefore are Christians, but most are not. Most don't have a personal, intimate relationship with God. They aren't 100% sure of their salvation; they feel as though they have to work to go to heaven, so they don't believe that they are saved by grace alone; they don't believe that Christ did everything for them on the Cross.
God wants a Father/son type of relationship with us (one that is governed by Love), not the Master/Slave, Boss/employee relationship religion offers, which is governed by fear).
Like I said before, Christianity is a
personal relationship with God, it's not about a bunch of rituals and traditions; it's not about you doing enough to please God. All God wants from you is to seek him, admit that your a sinner, and if you're willing to submit your will to him, he'll guide you through the rest. Being a Christian is not as complicated as most people make it out to be.
