Cause they get by doing the bare minimum. And they're generally not very innovative, probably because they're not expected to be. As long as they can write a catchy hook, they're in. But black/non-white artists have to prove they're better than everyone else, or else record labels won't bother with them.
Im in no position to answer tbh, but I do know that Teena Marie, Amy Winehouse and George Michael are/were very respected soul/R&B artists.
???
There are many innovative and forward thinking artists just as there are many basic performers among every race. Yeah, skin color can affect the opportunities of an artist, but since when does skin color determine creativity?
So the blacks are generally more creative and innovative than whites according to you.
And where do the other artists of color stand in this? Native Indians? Asians? Arabs? Are they more or less innovative than black artists?
I gotta agree with the user who said white artists are never played when they go to parties. The average black teen/student/whatever doesn't listen to white artists and I don't think it has to do with like racism or whatever but because rap is just the most popular type of music in the US (see streaming) and the two biggest female popstars are Rih and Bey. White popstars are just sort of making **** music right now. I love the pop girls too but nobody is listening to Rise/Perfect Illusion/Make Me etc and nobody actually plays songs like Cheap Thrills or Can't Stop the Feeling at parties.

It's not even a black thing. In America pretty much everyone aged 16-24 listens to hip-hop. I wouldn't expect people here to understand. I mean they call Future irrelevant but they have no idea how big he is for that age group.
This thread is a perfect example of the ignorance many of you have of music history.
Britney, Gaga, Madonna, etc are not popular with the Black community. If they have no charting hits on the R&B chart, not featured anywhere in Black magazines (Essence, Vibe, The Source, etc), and/or haven't performed or attended any Black award shows (BET, NAACP, Soul Train, etc) chances are they aren't respected by the Black community.
That said, the first person that should have been named was Teena Marie. Then after that would be acts like Kenny G, Hall & Oates, Amy Winehouse, Robin Thicke, John B, Lisa Stansfield, Average White Band, KC & The Sunshine Band, and more or less Adele. There are a host of others, but these are probably the most obvious choices.
