Also, if Gaga completely did what her label wanted, I'm pretty sure she would still be releasing generic Just Dance songs, and not gay anthems.

![rolleyes](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif) Right. Which is why after playing her label the songs from Dangerously In Love (including Crazy In Love, Baby Boy, Naughty Girl) and they told her to go back into the studio to record better songs she said F U, and released the album anyway. Which is why she recorded B'Day in secret and didn't tell anyone, and that's including good old Matthew. I can't imagine her label being very excited to see that she released an urban album with hard hip hop beats in an era totally saturated with Timbaland records. Generic? Please.

![rolleyes](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif) Unless her label advised her to go further with this whole gay thing and release a gay pride song.

Wait, are you saying the critics praised Britney? Receipts

her greatest hits is controlled though, she even said that.
Shakira's She Wolf era was kind of controlled also, especially the inclusion of Give It Up To Me and its release ![rolleyes](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
|
Dead, did she even want to release one?
Give It Up was lifeeee, and so was the video.

IDK know about her. It seems like it was somewhat controlled because she didn't seem to care much about Bionic or promoting it. I'm pretty sure it was all the label making her do the appearances and cancel her tour.
They didn't seem like they even wanted to try and salvage this era, although that could've been Xtina's input there because she seemed like she was over it. I remember the interview where she said she was over Bionic.

What the hell is "playing it safe"?
As if she has to act a mess to be a real artist or something. ![rolleyes](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)

I think Rihanna didnt get a lot of control until GGGB, then Rated R she was in control, but since it underperformed, she lost a lot of control.
Idk, I think it really depends on how you do.
I truly believe someone like Britney was not ready to do an album like Blackout, since she was going through a lot, and that is the reason you saw performances like those at the VMAS in 2007, and her lack of vocal use, and more auto-tune.
I think the label just pushed her so they could make money, and to try to get her life back on track, but then she took control for Circus.
It really depends.

I really think Beyonce has FULL control over her music. Maybe she needs some help for picking up some singles.
Destiny's fulfilled was completely controlled though ![eli's_rhythm](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRL_Smilies_All/atrlers/eli_zps0932edf9.gif)

She has FULL control, no debate needed. They're lucky to have her, especially since Jay-Z is begging her to come to his label. ![lmao](http://atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/lmao.gif)

But she haven't even released any gay anthem singles. Did she? Born This Way is set to be premiered in February.
Although she did great with releasing songs that weren't convenient that time during 2009... and her music videos nailed that, I think...

Didn't the gays go crazy for Just Dance?
Part of the reason radio even played it after ignoring it at first was because of their requests.

They kill me with that ****.
Like she needs to have her mugshots plastered all over the web, DUI incidents, drug problems, abusive relationships, be molested in her childhood and talk about it on the album, be negatively portrayed in the media and not give a **** etc in order to not play it safe.

Just because she wasn't in the center for the album cover doesn't mean it was controlled. Bey is a loving, Christian woman and she loves her DC gerls.

Beyonce has tons of control, & not just what gets released & when, etc. She's very involved in the music process when it comes to choosing the producers & writers & for a lot of her stuff she's in there with them. She's the type of person who has to know every queue & direction, from the studio to the stage. She chose Crazy In Love over Naughty Girl as the first single from Dangerously In Love. She recorded B'Day in two weeks by putting all the producers and writers in a studio with her and she didn't even inform the label.
I think Rihanna works hard, it's just that she doesn't care too much about the details so the label presents stuff to her and she picks-&-chooses which songs she likes and stuff. I still think she's controlled when it comes to what to release and when, but she probably doesn't even care about those certain label politics. I mean, she's into S&M so maybe submission is her thing.
I think Britney is a bit like Rihanna, she doesn't concern herself with the label politics. But I also think she isn't as controlled, she probably has a lot of yes-men and persuasive people. She's too big at this point to have people force her into anything other than when it comes to court-related things. I think she thought that covering Blackout's tracks with Circus was a good idea herself and her people persuaded her into putting out a more "commercial" album. She seems like an easily convinced person.
I think Gaga has lots of control as well. At times I think she might be smarter than her label because of her ability to generate controversy from simple things or her ability to feed into ones already there. I think she's very business-savvy.
