I mean, kind of? There must be some kind of law which states that an HIV+ person must tell their /sexual/ partner that they have it. But considered criminals? I don't know.
However, I think morality is a big issue here. A person should tell their partner that they have HIV, just so the partner can take extra caution and maybe start PrEP? (I know it takes 21 days but still)

Excuse me? When have I been ignorant in an HIV thread before? And what was ignorant about what I said in this thread? And if saying someone with a LIFE THREATENING disease that is often sexually transmitted should tell the person they're having sex with is one sided, then I'm OK with that

ATRL is full of ignorant and stupid people who have no idea what they're talking about. Half of y'all should stfu and do some research before opening your stupid *** mouths
ANYWAY HIV is NOT a death sentence anymore, it's completely treatable. Understand that. Those saying it's attempted murder is ridiculous as HIV doesn't even kill you.
This is how I see it. If you're HIV positive and you're not taking medication and you willingly have unprotected sex with someone without telling them and they become infected, then yes you should be charged with reckless endangerment.
If you're HIV positive and you're undetectable AND you use protection, the chances of you infecting someone is almost impossible. However I think it is always your responsibility to tell people your status, regardless of your viral load. There's no excuse to not tell someone your status. It is also people's responsibility to USE condoms if they don't know someone's status. It takes two of you to tango, if you go out having unprotected sex with people you barely know then you are also at fault.
PEP & PrEP people. Google.

Yes at all time, even when using protection imo.

When I got pregnant I did not blame my ex; I took all the responsibility for being drunk, foolish, and, well, horny. I could have gotten an STD in the process, but luckily that wasn't the case.
What many of you don't even think about when it comes to these laws criminalizing people living with HIV (because that's all that it is) is that they can create a bad slippery slope. A person could simply lie (wow, what a concept) and claim that the other individual never disclosed their status --and the system will give them priority even if they did not become infected.

Fighting HIV is a big part of the line of work I'm going into, so no, I do not believe those infected should be criminalized. However, if you have an (again) LIFE THREATENING disease, yes it is YOUR responsibility to tell every person you sleep with. While we should fight the stigma against the disease, that does not mean we absolve Positive people of their responsibility and talk about this like it's a casual thing.

HIV isn't a life threatening disease. People can live with the condition and last longer than people who don't have it, did you know that?
People can lie about their status or not knowing it at all. HIV is sadly stigmatized. You may have a point but some other users in here don't. They simply say yes because they support unprotected sex.

It's kinda pathetic the type of comments certain user can make just to state his point.

Not really, especially if they don't even know they're HIV positive in the first place.
You can't die from HIV unless you have no access to healthcare. If you're having unprotected sex, you also have to take responsibility cause like the saying goes, "it takes two to tango".

If someone is trying to have unprotected sex with you and they have HIV, are aware of this, and don't tell you, then yes. They are criminals. You could actually die from the disease if you aren't aware you have it. If you don't catch it in time, it could advance to an irreversible condition.
But otherwise, this is why you should always make sure everything holds up on YOUR END as well. Take that Truvada, and make sure you always use protection unless you're in a committed relationship. (But tbh, even if I was, I'd still secretly take Prep. Cuz if your husband cheats, you could be screwed.)
Anyway, it's fine to have sex with someone who has HIV if you use protection and take medication. It isn't a death sentence anymore, I know. But it still could potentially do some huge damage to you. That's why they should tell you about their status no matter what.

It's already a crime if there is malicious intent.

Ok but it's literally their choice if they don't wanna sleep with someone who is positive.
It might not be as life threatening as it was in the past, but some ppl would rather not risk it and have to live with the disease, the treatment, and the emotions hat goes along with it, for the rest of their lives. Ya'll also have a lot of nerve and calling other ignorant, when PEP, PreP and condoms are not 100% guaranteed to work. It's small, but there's still a risk. It should be legal to disclose other people's status, in certain situations, bc a few months ago there was a guy that blatantly talked about infecting other guys in my city, but no one could call him out bc of the law. I was shook tbh.

HIV doesn't kill in western societies anymore - if you have HIV and take your medication you will probably never develop AIDS and will die of other causes like everyone else

It is illegal in the United States and one MUST tell someone what STD's they have with someone up front before sex or that could also get them in trouble.

Considered a criminal? That seems a bit extreme. I'd say no except maybe for rare cases like if there was proof that someone was plotting to kill, and transmitted HIV as a means of doing that

Yes and no...
If you're hooking up with someone that you just met (meaning actually having a conversation) or know then the subject should most definitely come up.
If you're doing an anonymous hookup through Grindr, bathhouse, etc ... then I wouldn't expect anyone to discuss it since you're just having sex with no strings attached. And plus, if you're having anonymous encounters like this, then you should just expect that your sexual partner has a high risk of being affected.

While this is very true, some guys think that it's no big deal anymore since it's not considered a "death threat" with today's medication. Sure, it's only one pill a day but you must NEVER miss taking a pill and the medication has numerous side effects that could leave you feeling very ill. Not to mention that even with insurance, these pills are extremely expensive.
So for those that don't think it's that serious, they still need to realize that life isn't peachy keen when they're affected.

so insulting and demonizing those Ppl who have HIV. I mean it's pretty terrible on their part to not reveal such a news but to make them murderers? that's only going to perpetuate the stigma regarding HIV. and finally, just don't be a H.O.E and no problems will arise.

Yes. That is incredilby dangerous, selfish, and cruel. As pointed out, using condoms doesn't always guarantee that you won't catch HIV.

OMG @ people saying no and implying it's okay to not tell the other person as long as they use condoms
"Chances are low..."
"HIV is not deadly anymore..."
"Don't discriminate!!!11!"
This is why 1/10 of gays in the US are still HIV+
