What I think Nicole is trying to say is that being a new artist isn't an excuse. I mean many artists debut singles go #1 and even though GaGa was a new artist her second single went to #1 too, so really it doesn't make that much difference. In actual fact new artists tend to have a lot of hype and momentum for their early releases to be aided by.

even hot n cold was a huge hit .. it didn't hit the #1 but it was massive
i think that biblioteque and nicole were saying that when a singer has a huge debut there's a huge hype for the second single ( katy perry lady gaga and so on)
