Unless you've been living in a bubble this year, you've at least heard of Nicki Minaj, because she's been everywhere! At first, I was reluctant to investigate, but after doing so, I found her intruging, fiesty, and surprisingly charming. I'd describe the album in the same way. There's a brilliant mixture of guest stars and genius samples that she could have hid behind, but she didn't! She shines throughout the play, and it wasn't long before I fell in love with every track!

I COMPLETELY agree with this.

10 - 06 Singles
10 Owl City - Fireflies (Peak: #1, Weeks: 30)
One of the most unique sounding songs released in 2010, so it had no trouble standing out from the crowd of releases early on in the year. I'd never heard of Owl City, or Adam before, so I'd consider him one of 2010's breakthroughs off the back of this brilliant track. It managed to pull of two weeks at #1, in a year with 26 one-week chart toppers, making 'Fireflies' the first song of 2010 to get more than one week at #1.
09 Marina & The Diamonds - Hollywood (Peak: #1, Weeks: 34)
Marina & The Diamonds has for the whole of 2010 been one of the best new acts to emerge. This wasn't her first single, her first was 'Mowglis Road' which reached #8, but this is the song that caught my attention. It managed to stay at #1 for 3 weeks and stayed in the Hot 100 for an impressive 34.
08 Brandon Flowers - Crossfire (Peak: #1, Weeks: 25)
I've always been a fan of the Killers, although their chart performances with the singles released from 'Day And Age' perhaps wouldn't show that. But Brandon on his own is still a force to be reckoned with. I was excited from the project as soon as I saw it coming, because I knew it would be brilliant, and he couldn't have picked a better lead single. 'Crossfire' spent 4 weeks on top, which became the longest stint on top for 2010.
07 B.o.B - Nothin' On You (Feat. Bruno Mars) (Peak: #1, Weeks: 32)
Yet another entry for B.o.B in this countdown, and in fact Bruno Mars, both of whom would sit comfortably among my favourite new or breakthrough artists of 2010. The first time I heard this song, I was at a house party, incredibly drunk, but even then it made me stop in my tracks and listen. The first time you hear Bruno's voice, is always something to remember. Despite only managing one week on top, the song had one of the strongest chart runs of the year.
06 Cee-Lo Green - F**k You (Peak: #1, Weeks: 16)
I'm been a massive fan of Gnarls Barkley since they released the incredible 'Crazy' all those years ago, and Cee-Lo's voice has always sounded mind blowing to me. This song started off as a viral campaign on the internet, but being such an incredibly infectious and cheeky song, it wasn't long before it took off. It was one of my anthems of the summer, and has been one of the most prominent tunes on my playlists since it's release, and as a result pulled of 3 weeks at #1.

10 Brandon Flowers - Flamingo (Peak: #1, Weeks: 16)
Hearing 'Crossfire' for the first time was enough to make 'Flamingo' one of my most anticiapted album releases of the year, and I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed when I played it. Brandon has found a sound that he is comfortable with, and he uses it to the max on this disc, creating stand-out tracks like 'Crossfire' and 'Only The Young', as well as the beautiful 'On The Floor' and heart wrenching 'The Clock Was Tickin' from the deluxe edition of the album. The album went straight to #1 and is still charting into the start of 2011.
9 B.o.B - Presents The Adventures Of Bobby Ray (Peak: #1, Weeks: 27)
Hearing 'Nothin' On You' I gave Bruno Mars a lot of credit for what makes that track special, but once I'd played this album once through, it was clear as day that B.o.B, or Bobby Ray, was far more talented than I first thought, as the album contains many more brilliant songs, without Brunos help. An obvious mention would have to be 'Airplanes', but there are also album tracks that I rate highly, such as 'Don't Let Me Fall', 'Past My Shades', 'The Kids' and the breath taking 'Letters From Vietnam'.
8 Magnetic Man - Magnetic Man (Peak: #1, Weeks: 12)
This was one album that I wasn't expecting to fall in love with in 2010. I've always been a fan of dance, house and funkyhouse as genres, but it was only this year I ventured into the Drum & Bass and Dubstep areas. I fell in love with the hypnotic 'I Need Air' on first listen, and even more so with 'Getting Nowhere' featuring John Legend. And I even heard something special in the non-vocal tracks, which is a rare thing for me. The tracks 'Fire', 'The Bug' and 'Crossover' never fall flat to these ears, and the album managed 3 weeks at #1.
7 Joe Brooks - Constellation Me (Peak: #1, Weeks: 7)
Despite an earlier release, it was only in the fourth quarter of 2010 that I discovered Joe Brooks and this fantastic album, making him another contender for Best New Artist of 2010. The first time I played the album I fell in love with every track, and his raw, acoustic, summery sound. The album unexpectedly debuted at #1, and also started 2011 by climbing back to the top spot, becoming the first #1 of 2011. A last minute change to this countdown put this album at #7 from just outside the top 20, a decision I'm pleased with!
6 Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid (Peak: #1, Weeks: 31)
I don't think there's anything I could say that would do this album the justice it so fully deserves! A favourite among almost all critics, she is intruging enough to get anyones attention. Without doubt, 'The ArchAdroid' is one of the two most creative releases of the year, the other of which is yet to come in this countdown... Her style and stage performances have been second to none this year, and her album stood out enough to reach #1 for me.

5 - 3 Albums
5) Chrisette Michele - Let Freedom Reign (Peak: #1, Weeks: 4)
It was in 2009 that I discovered Chrisette Michele, and her album 'Epiphany' ended at #10 in my countdown last year. So it's clear to see how strong my love for this woman is ending 2010 at #5. On the whole, I don't think this album is as consistant as her last, but on the other hand, I think this one has stronger stand outs such as 'Let Freedom Reign', 'I'm A Star', 'Number One' and 'I'm Your Life', and not to mention the stunning 'I Don't Know Why'. She has a way to go before ditching the 'Ne-Yo' sound, as his sound is all over this album just like it was the last one, but then, I am a Ne-Yo fan and love his sound, so does she really need to move on anyway? The album was released very late in the year, and has made it this far after only 4 weeks in the chart, and became the last #1 album of 2010.
4) Marina & The Diamonds - The Family Jewels (Peak: #1, Weeks: 41)
Marina has ended 2010 at #2 in the Top 40 Breakthrough Artists countdown, only narrowly missing the #1 spot. This album was an early discovery in the year, which has given it enough time to rack up numerous weeks at #1 in one of the most impressive chart runs of the year. The new sound Marina brought to the table has for me become a defining sound of 2010, and it will be hard to think about 2010 in music, and not be brought straight back to Marina & The Diamonds in one way or another. For me there isn't a bad track on this album, and even better is that most of the songs are simply brilliant, including two songs which made it to #1 in my Hot 100 this year.
3) Rihanna - Loud (Peak: #1, Weeks: 6)
It was a close call, and 'Loud' only just misses out on a top 2 position. The decision between this and the album at #2 has been the hardest to make in this whole countdown. 'Rated R' ended 2009 as the 7th best album of 2009, so like Chrisette, it's an improvement year-on-year. I wasn't expecting an album a fraction as good as this one turned out, as it was recorded and released in such a short period of time, which I suppose added to the effect of being blown away on first listen! 'Only Girl (In The World' and 'What's My Name?' have already been revealed in my singles countdown, so needless to say I love those tracks, but my favourites are still hidden on the disc! 'S&M' is a pure club banger that always hits the spot. 'California King Bed' is in my opinion, her strongest vocal performance to date in her career! And 'Man Down' is basically on par with 'Rude Boy' for me, which makes it one of my all time favourite Rihanna tracks. Another album that was released late in the year, it only managed to chart for 6 weeks in 2010, but still sits in the top 5 and reached the top of the chart upon it's debut.

5 - 3 Singles
5) Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are (Peak: #1, Weeks: 17)
Bruno Mars has ended 2010 as the #1 Breakthrough artist of the year, and being up against tough competition! This entry means that Bruno has placed all 3 of his singles this year in the top 40 of this countdown. His collaborations with B.o.B and Travie McCoy sounded brilliant to me instantly, so he aleady had a headstart by the time I heard this track. But none the less, I loved this song completely on its own merit, and it became Bruno's 3rd number one of 2010, which made him the only artist to have more than a pair of #1's.
4) Rihanna - Rude Boy (Peak: #1, Weeks: 31)
It was the 'Rated R' album which made me fall in love with Rihanna, and this is probably the song that really did it. By far, this track has been my favourite up-tempo of 2010. It's been played in every club I've been to this year, and every time it goes down great, and it still gets played to death, and it's brilliance hasn't even slightly faded for me. The music video for 'Rude Boy' was also one of my favourites of 2010. This song became Rihanna's third #1 hit, and managed to stay on top for 2 weeks in an impressive overall chart run.
3) Alicia Keys - Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready) (Peak: #1, Weeks: 33)
Like Rihanna, I wasn't the 'Alicia-Fan' that I am today before the release of 'The Element Of Freedom', which gave me the upmost respect for her. This song was released as the fourth single from the album, and to be honest, it had never been the stand-out track for me, but as soon as I added it to my playlists, it struck a nerve and got played to death my me! The highest charting R'n'B song in this countdown, and also the highest charting song by a female artist. The song managed 3 weeks at #1, and became Alicia's first chart topper.
