What's the point of all those awards and radio play if ultimately, you can't sell the single?

Meanwhile, Music was a cowboy borefest of Madonna having a rehash of Ray Of Light, American Life flopped and was critically panned, Confessions on a Dance Floor used over-recycled production and flopped in the US (and was outperformed by TEOM).
Hard Candy was another uninspired album that rid off Timbaland and JT, and YET still underperformed.
Take a seat, Madonnas.

TEOM = 12 million copies sold
- The Best Selling Solo Album in 2005
And for those who use Metacritic scores? They mean nothing lol

Total album sales >>> individual album sales.
Just cause 1 album outsold another by 1 mil, but the rest underperformed, it doesn't mean a thing.

Spending fourteen weeks atop the Hot 100, "We Belong Together" became the second longest running number one song in US chart history, behind only Carey's 1996 collaboration with Boyz II Men, "One Sweet Day", which spent sixteen weeks at number one. Aside from its chart success, the song broke several airplay records, and according to Mediabase and Nielsen BDS, gathered both the largest one-day and one-week audiences in BDS history, reaching 32.8 million and 223 million impressions respectively. To date,
"We Belong Together" has been listened to more than 8 billion times in the United States alone.[35] During the week of September 25, 2005, Carey set another record, becoming the first female to occupy the first two spots atop the Hot 100, as "We Belong Together" remained at number one, and her next single, "Shake It Off" held the number two spot.
Additionally, the song held the top position on the official Hot 100 Airplay chart for sixteen weeks.
"We Belong Together" was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), denoting shipments of over one million copies throughout the United States.
On the Billboard Hot 100 Year-end Chart of 2005, the song was declared the number one song, a career first for Carey. Billboard listed "We Belong Together" ninth on The Billboard Hot 100 All-Time Top Songs and second on Top Billboard Hot 100 R&B/Hip-Hop Songs of All Time. The song was also declared the most popular song of the 2000s decade by Billboard.

And yet, it's nowhere to be found on the world's best-selling singles list, where Hung Up sits rather comfortably.

Exactly. I love how they try and downplay Music as if it didn't sell 11 million copies.

I have no idea, you should ask them since I'm not in the Navy
If you compare it with Madonna sales, she's kinda local but that's just an observation

That's clearly coming from someone who never heard "Music", or just didn't pay attention to it.

Emancipation is the best out of the lot, but Mariah's other 3 are pretty bad/average.
Madonna had one great album too, with 3 average.
I suppose what it all boils down two is which of them released the biggest pile of ****. Memoirs takes it easier than Meryl at the Oscars or Adele at the Grammy's.
Madonna wins
