Exactly. They are only pioneering it because their fave is underperforming on radio. Radio airplay is a necessity as it demonstrates what the public is listening to and the biggest hits that people WANT to listen to. If airplay was negligible the charts would be a mess. most urban acts wouldnt even chart on the hot 100 because they dont sell much digitally. Why try to change history? Doesnt make sense.

Airplay is the medium between a (white) world full of digital singles that are legally purchased and the bootleggers who own music but not legally which effects mostly (black) artists. Airplay is here to stay and always has been for that reason alone with the word digital single being switched out with (racism) for the 40's 50's and 60's, and some of the 70's and 80's too hell. Billboard, however dense they may be, will come to that realisation once the death of the radio becomes more apparent to us. Perhaps it will take a few decades, but it will be kicked out eventually. Death of the radio will mean death of the music, too. I have yet to see one track to survive one week without radio support.

It'll be a mess of epic proportions. Not everyone is able to buy digital single and RADIO is still a huge part of the music industry, I dare to say more than the digital market, almost everyone listen to radio stations.

and America =/= Europe, radio plays a BIG role here.
