Simultaneously very annoying and also really catchy, this is probably one of the weirdest hits in a while and is all the better for it. The lyrics don’t read like a hit, but a mixture of great delivery and social media eminence made this inescapable in the latter parts of the year.
Not this list being the shit already, LMAO!
omg St0rving is so qt tbh, also I lowkey really like the 1975 even though I'll go long stretches of time without bumping
The album is actually a pleasant surprise, and this song in particular represents a state of total happiness in a way that’s pretty difficult to describe. Immaculately produced, well-sung, unrepentant in its pop focus... let’s hope these guys keep going in this disco-throwback mode.

Gwen Stefani - Misery
From the album ‘This Is What The Truth Feels Like’
A deceptively good pre-album single, this really gave mike false hopes for this album, only Make Me Like You and Asking 4 It really came close still, it made her comeback purposeful, I’m willing to take the legacy-ruining crap considering we got this pop gem, should’ve smashed.

ANOHNI - Drone Bomb Me
From the album ‘Hopelessness’
As far as 2016 protest music goes, this is probably the pinnacle. The claps and crashes, usually emblems of mindless dancing, are reappropriated as harbingers of apocalyptic destruction, with the perhaps clumsy lyrics cutting through and affecting on an emotion level regardless.

James Blake - I Need A Forest Fire
From the album ‘The Colour In Everything’
Perhaps this album was overly morose, but this song is so beautiful in its maudlin nature that it effortlessly stands out without really diverging from that album’s sound. All parties involved so a great job, and I firmly believe that this is the song that elevates the album into greatness.

Chairlift - Moth to the Flame
From the album ‘Moth’
Nowhere near their best song, not even the best on the album (rip Romeo, 2016 couldn’t wait for you), but as close to a banger as they’ve ever really come. The pounding beat compliments her vocals really well, and the lyrics are pretty simple and relatable for once on this dull album.
drone bomb me is AWESOME, but i also kinda feel like the subject matter is treated in such an insensitive and somewhat juvenile way ??? but it's REALLY good at the same time
CHAIRLIIIIIIIFT! I've heard a couple of songs of theirs and love all of them. Don't know what I'm waiting for in terms of listening to Moth. Maybe I can listen to it before it's too late in the year.
