In 2012, I think all the songs that made it to the top were unique, except for Part of Me, Whistle and WANEGBT. As long as we're growing past the YOLO/Put Your Hands Up In Da Club/Turn it up DJ/Die Young ()/Dr Fluke/ReDone phase in Pop, we're headed in the right direction.

Pop music has been getting less and less boring since about mid-2011, tbh. Less and less people are having to rely on dance beats from RedOne and Dr. Luke for hits, and that's a good thing.

Not true. There is so much more diversity on the charts now.

The only problem is that only one popstar is releasing and that's Rihanna. Even then, the songs she's released recently would have bombed a few years ago.

The pop landscape is changing pretty quickly, and its very interesting to watch. The fact that nobodies can make a great song and get it to the top is pretty cool.

Why on earth would you argue against "Try" and "Daylight" being pop songs?

And in either case, pop music refers to popular music. All of these songs appeal to a broader, more general audience than a specific following. Not to mention, pop songs draw thematic inspiration from love and relationships. The only one that doesn't fit that category is "Thrift Shop," but even then, it draws attention with its catchy hook.

Not to mention, if Scream & Shout qualifies as pop, how do SN and DYWC not?

Honestly I think pop music was at it's most boring (in recent years) in 2009-2010. Those years, pretty much everybody was putting out electronic pop songs that all sounded very similar to each other and had extremely repetitive lyrics (moreso then pop music normally does). All the songs were just copycats of other previously successful songs, there was practically no originality.

Id rather have my indie folk mixed with pop than have hours and hours and hours of electropop with the same tempo throughout each and every song.

I don't understand why everyone in here is saying that GaGa releasing new music is going to change the face of pop music. Did we all just forget Born This Way happened or what... ? People aren't here for her and her kooky antics like they were when they were fresh in 2009.

Pop music is a mixed bag right now. We kind of have a range of musical stylings but we have to suffer through the mindless dance trash that people have been coming out with (Scream & Shout et al). It's our faults though, somebody puts out a song with a beat that's fun to dance to and the mass public buys the song like it's an artistic masterpiece.
