So then labels and publishing companies need to update how they distribute money. Labels and publishing companies are making bank from streaming. But they're using outdated contracts from before the onset of streaming.

The streaming services aren't really the issue, it's the contracts. Also, streaming means a constant revenue source. It doesn't stop once the song is purchased. For every listen there's a payment. This is highly lucrative. As more people join streaming, more money will be made.

For example Gaga: She sold ~40m albums WW (w/ TEA). How many she gets?

40m minus packaging deduction (20%) = 32m
Standard PPD price: $7.5
Label income: $240m
Gaga's royalty 22% (let's say): $53m

(don't forget about producers' and manager's fee)

And touring? Gross: $520m
Her income: $520m * 34% = ~$170m

Streaming is truly the future, the NOW, and we don't really have any way for the artists to be rewarded.
Like there should be just an actual streaming certification. I don't know how much like streams would be a gold/platinum/diamond cert but I really think this should be a thing, and the sales AND streaming certs should be reversed to the salesonly cert

As much as people on here bitch about streaming and how it needs to be reworked you would think there would be a major discrepancy between the top album sales list and overall top 10

7/10 artists are on both list with 1-2 placement difference.
