The thread was actually meant to be primarily about musical style and quality, though I suppose success is a relevant factor too when comparing to a legend.

TIHWD already outpeaked G.U.Y. in the USA and it's the 5th single. It's almost Top 70.Meanwhile G.U.Y. was the third single...

But, uh, if you people actually knew anything about Cyndi's career as opposed to just repeating what other people say, you'd see the similarities between Cyndi and Katy are much more apparent than the ones with Gaga. Cyndi had the relateable factor, the GP loved her, and she played it safe. At the age of 30, she was singing songs about "girls wanting to have fun" and other childish things just like Katy is doing now. When the public started getting tired of Madonna or when the media was attacking Madonna, Cyndi got a pass because she was the safest popstar around. In addition, Gaga has already sold nearly twice as many records as Cyndi and is closer in all aspects to Madonna than Katy will ever be: impact, sales, tour gross, net worth, etc.
However, being the "next Cyndi" is not a bad thing. Cyndi is a respected musician who has been around for thirty-plus years and has won a Grammy, Tony, and Emmy Award. Considering Katy only succeeds with singles, her career's not that comparable to either Madonna or Cyndi.

You saying TIHWD has outpeaked GUY as if that's some sort of accomplishment. Katy went from five #1 singles to three flop singles.

SHE IS NOT STRUGGLING

Oh wow selling 3.5M WW is so huge. Congrats on Roar and Dark Horse but Just Dance and Poker Face remain bigger and more impactful. Gaga's The Fame era was bigger than Katy's entire career.
I won't bother with a troll anyway.

Only ATRL would compare a 6 year long career to a 30+ year long career. Embarrassing
|
remembered to this day for only one song
also look at cyndi's massive decline in album sales from each era, looks like a current artist's sales

Yes i am. People who are not haters do see Gaga as an artistic popstar.
I can't name one person who sees Katy as something more than a bubblegum pop act.

Katy and Madonna have some similarities because they both have extremely limited talent and yet managed to get quite successful at selling their music.

Are you forgetting about True Colors? Time After Time? It doesn't change the fact that she's still remembered to this day Again, you are comparing a 6 year long career to a 30+ year long career. For all we know, Katy could be completely forgotten in the next 2 years and Gaga could be back on top with 3 more #1's the industry is unpredictable and you never know what's going to be popular next year. When will you guys get it through your heads?

Not being 2x Platinum =/= Not being a hit.
Do What U Want (Which peaked higher than Birthday/Uncle and would have made top 10 with a vid)
