I will admit, though, that it's extremely awkward when a straight guy asks. They usually ask very condescendingly.

Hm. If they ask me if I'm gay or not, I will at least respect the fact that they asked me to my face and not to my friend. People are curious, whatever. As long as they have spoken to/hung out with me, I really see no harm in it.
However, if I don't really know you, and you start asking me about my family's reaction to it/my sex life - then we have a mother****ing problem.

I've never been asked , cause I am not effeminate. People just suspect when they know me well or check my iTunes library.
Just the straight guy that kissed me surprisingly asked me , and I said no  .

Aside from the time that a really old man asked me if I were bisexual, I can't say that I've been asked that question... while sober.
It's no one's business, but I'm pretty laid back, so I wouldn't go in if someone asked.

Me too actually. Although they can know if I talk about certain things/act a certain way in regards to a topic that is considered to be feminine.
Basically you will know if I want you to know. It's kind of a fun game.

This just happened to me, it was awkward. At work, I would jokingly flirt with this girl and she just flat out said "I'm so confused, are you gay or not?" and I just froze. She was like "You don't have to answer if you don't want to" and left. It was awkward after because we always joke around with each other but we kinda stopped talking that day.
I think the "Are you gay" question brings back so many bad memories for people. Those three words... Ahh. People here don't really ask, it's kind of hard to tell but sometimes you just "know" they're gay and you don't have to ask, if you know what I mean.

When I started my new job, a lot of people would kind of "hint" me and wanted to ask me if I was gay. They would start with "I wanna ask you something.. oh wait nevermind" hoping I would say "No wait, what did you wanna tell me?" but I knew exactly what they wanted to ask so I never bothered. I know from experience because I get a lot of people asking if I'm gay.

I love how uncomfortable people are when they ask me if I'm gay. They can never look me in the eyes, and the question always begins with, "Um, er, eh... Um... Hmm... Eh... Please don't be offended, and I'm sorry if this is really awkward..."

Another awkward moment is when you're in like, class, and someone brings a gay topic 
I was in nutrition class and my teacher asked "Why are gay men skinny" (some stupid question like that) and it was really awkward for me. Every time there is a gay question that randomly comes up, I never raise my hand or speak. I feel like everyone is watching me.

Oh Lord though If you tell one person in class that you're gay (especially a chatty girl), you better believe everyone is going to know by the end of that one semester.
Then you come back, and as soon as a gay topic is brought up, you feel a thousand eyes just stares right at you. One time my class went on a business tour of some agencies in Toronto, and the moment the teacher mentioned that the area we were in had a dense gay population I felt surrounded by looks....
