Germany, France, UK, Italy and Spain would form one giant superpower not only for their combined economies but also for their large military and great cultural influence. And America would have a big opponent and shut up. A union of Germany, UK, and those small rich countries would form one rich country, with perhaps a stable economy, but still not big and powerful enough to stand against America especially when some of those small countries are neutral with no standing army.
