I vividly remember reading an article about why Black film makers are so "one-track minded" when it comes to Black films. "White" films have creativity, are imaginative, they're "different", if you will. Black films tend to follow the themes that Blacks complain about when being type casted in "White" films.
|
Black filmmakers make films about black issues because otherwise they wouldn't get made. At least someone is doing it.

Do I need to continue? I know I'm missing a ton of names still
EDIT: ****, we were talking about actresses. My point is still valid.

How many black actors have reached Will or Halle's success? Few. Hollywood pumps out new, fresh white actors every year. The major black actors in 2012 were the same major black actors 10 years ago..Will, Halle, Taraji, Gabrielle Union, Denzel, Samuel, Morgan etc.

Well, they had to kill the original one to create the new one... But the question is, why wasn't the original one black?

I need to go out and support that film.

Last time was 2001. If the world is fair, this year will also have an African American winner.

White people love to give Oscars and accolades to Blacks playing subordinate roles in those oppressive type of movies that take place during the 50s, slavery, or ghetto.
It seems as though Hollywood doesn't like to give Blacks the lead role in just a regular movie. It always has to be "black" movie.

But for the most part, blacks (and every other minority group, including women) are underrepresented across movie and television as compared to their percentage of the population. Guess why? Because straight, white, Christian men pretty much run the media industry (and this country). The lack of diversity across the board is despicable.

But I won't develop more, the subject just makes me feel all kind of ways.

Oh that is such a ******** argument, and that really degrades the work that talented black actresses (and actors) do all the time.

This reminds me of when Donald Glover was campaigning to play Spider Man and he said he got a bunch of hate mail from comic book nerds saying that black people don't read comic books and there's no such thing as black nerds.

I'm just trying to say that there were black Char in the movies. Bem, Patil sisters, Thomas, Kingsley Shacklebot. But it is true, they actually had a shitload more lines in the books

And that's a major part of the problem. People have this archaic idea of what black people are entertained by and believe that's all that should be put out there.
Not every black person grew up in the hood, or without a father, or poor. There are plenty of black comic nerds that would support a film of Harry Potter's ilk.

That comes as a result of being stereotyped, and the response movie companies get from distributing such films. If a film about "life in the hood" is successful and what Blacks like to see, then why stray away from the formula?

Basically.
Plus older stories like shakespear and LOTR were written when there were even less black people in the countries they were penned, so of course all the characters are White.
I don't think there is a lack of black people in the media though. Beyonce, Oprah, Rihanna, Jay-z, Kayne West, Will Smith, Whitney Housten, Alexander and Burke, and obviously Obama are just a few of the names which spring to mind.

Dead @ you skipping my whole argument and addressing that one line. LOL, at degrades the work. I said nothing about the actor's work. I'm talking about the ROLES black actors & actresses are given.
