It's probably since we were raised on the radio and pop girls were always on the radio and it just stuck? Either way, you shouldn't generalize in any situation.
I don't really know, but for myself, as I get older my musical interests are actually becoming predominately more male and of the electro / rock / indie genres.

The white gay ATRL population doesn't make up for the entire gay community.

Is there a problem with liking things women create. Is that a bad thing. I like mostly female artists not just generic pop girls but folk singers R&B singers rock bands lead by females opera singers and much more. So liking women's art is uncool **** you

I could say the same about many male country artists, male hip hop artists, and bands. But somehow, they never get called generic.
And also, trashing someone else's taste is never a cute look. Just cause you hold an opinion doesn't mean everyone else will.

Take ATRL out of the equation for a moment. Who are the "gay icons" of the last 4 decades? Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, Madonna, Britney Spears, Cher, and Lady Gaga. Yes I realize liking pop girls is a stereotype and yes I realize not EVERYBODY will fit it, but you know damn well there's some truth to it.

This is not about who's generic and who's not. This is about WHY gays are obsessed with pop girls.

Male artists are boring and basic. Their performances and videos aren't interesting.

Cause they embrace the gay scene more than anyone else. May be it's pandering, but they still were a voice when there wasn't any. It's also easier to relate to someone singing about a guy than someone singing about a girl.
I also think it's because it represents escapism. A bigger, brighter life than we might have had while we were going up. Kylie's music, for instance, is almost like disco heaven. It represents just dancing your sorrows away.

The gay community has almost always had a pulse on popular music (e.g - House music in the 90's before it went mainstream). So popular music (i.e what is in the charts) has always been liked. Female popstars, like Madonna, Kylie, Cher - have been a voice for the LGBT community, when our "voice" i.e media presence wasn't as big as it is today.
Of course, it's not exclusively females, there have been male LGBT supporters, but they are few and far between. It's only in recent years, as LGBT rights have progressed, that male artists are being more vocal about it and even coming out themselves (i.e Ricky).
Not to mention gay clubs, are predominantly dance orientated and female popstars are more likely to make dance/pop music, than male popstars.
Then you have the whole issue of camp, stemming from drag shows and things like that, a lot of gay men enjoy the huge spectacle of a show. Which is why you have artists like Kylie who do the whole Showgirl theme and wear these outrageous costumes and put out cult classics like "Your Disco Needs You". It all stems from the gay scene.
Then you have other small aspects such as pronouns in songs, a female singing a love song will usually be directed towards a male. Whereas a man singing a love song towards a woman, won't resonate as much.
Basically, it's a large number of factors. But I don't think there's anything wrong in enjoying generic music, female music, or camp music. Anyone making fun of that, is basically insecure in themselves. (Not referring to you Vato, just in general).

Gays are obsessed with Beyoncé and she's far from generic.

Haha thanks, it's an interesting topic to be honest. I see a shift happening in the music industry at the moment which is quite exciting. I think Nick Jonas and Olly (from Years & Years) recently said we need more music aimed at and for the gay community. With marriage finally being legalized and acceptance being higher than ever right now (although obviously not everywhere) I think male artists are going to become much more gay friendly. Prepare for a wave of huge male popstars.
Of course the downsides to this will be "gay pandering" - I can already foresee that becoming an ATRL hot topic. But there's good and bad to every situation.

I'm here for this. There are already a couple out gay artists like Sam, Frank, Adam Lambert, Bloc Party (lead singer is gay) but they are few and far between and don't really get support from gays. I feel this is partly due to our obsession with pop girls and pop girls only. I'm here for more diversity.

It's all about taste. And honestly, Adam's songs are hit and miss, Frank has an annoying voice, but Sam is even more annoying than he is and comes off as whiny and two-faced.
Rumors slays though and I do like Restart.

Both the elitism just because people think listening to Britney Spears makes you generic and have bad taste AND the people claiming that you are a pitchfork type stan who's pretentious for only listening to artists who have sold under 1,000 albums WW
It's embarrassing. **** what other people think, your taste is your taste and if it makes you happy then that's all that matters. People shaming on either side <<<<
