Let's get into how criminally underrated The Hunchback of Notre Dame is.
That and B&TB are really the only two films from the 90s Renaissance I'd call amazing films, period.
Hunchback was supposed to be another Beauty (from the French origins to the same animation team) but I think it failed b/c it's tonally all over the place. Beauty struck the perfect balance between dark, Gothic romance and kid-frienldy fare. Hunchback goes too dark, strays too far from kid-friendly Disney territory...and then gives you dancing, singing gargoyles to try to tip the balance back...but it doesn't quite work out.

Yeah, it's dark and not really as accessible for kids (it has a pretty lurid depiction of sexual fantasy, after all). I still loved it so much.
