I liked Lafawnduh to me, she's sorta like a less good Sevdaliza but like oh well.
serpentwithfeet to me has so much potential but also I just.... wish there was MORE to the music.

Let me peep
Although Italian electronic musician Lorenzo Senni isn’t exactly what I would call a “veteran”, he has been in the music industry for enough time to consider his sound quite influential, his minimal approach to trance, techno, IDM and big-room EDM is something that I haven’t heard any artist doing before (something rare in the world of electronic music, to be quite honest). Which is why I was excited to hear he got signed to Warp Records (it’s nice to see this label opening up to artists such as GAIKA, Kelela, Danny Brown and Lorenzo himself), he finally got the recognition he deserved for the longest time – and shortly after the announcement, he released his first EP under that label, ‘Persona’. This EP is not only Lorenzo’s most developed work to date, but it also makes me feel excited for an upcoming debut on this new label.

#04. G.L.O.S.S. - 'Trans Day of Revenge'
Genre: Hardcore Punk, Queercore, D-Beat, Anarcho-Punk
Label: self-released || Country: US
"WHEN PEACE IS JUST ANOTHER WORD FOR DEATH, IT'S OUR TIME TO GIVE VIOLENCE A CHANCE"
These are strong words to open a record to. Specially in times as fragile as these, but they did it anyway. I really loved G.L.O.S.S.'s debut EP (I was too late to get into it), but while on the first EP they (mostly) discussed themes related to trans people, queer identity and similar topics, their second (and final) release covers a wide variety of themes related to opression, such as police brutality, the patriarchy and so on (all of this under 7 minutes, insane isn't it?!), and it was just about as good. Just when the world needed them the most, in a post-Trump world, they announced that this project was over (granted this was before Trump, but still). However I do have faith we'll remember Sadie's words and the insane energy of this music in the upcoming years, as well as more people following her example, since this is what punk should sound like 2016.

#03. Charli XCX - 'Vroom Vroom'
Genre: Electropop, Bubblegum Bass, Trap, UK Bass, Dance-Pop, UK Hip Hop
Label: Vroom Vroom || Country: UK
Charli XCX has previously worked with trendy, underground-ish producers before (like Salem, Balam Acab or Gold Panda) on both remixes and original tracks, used weird, mind-bending beats, and even rapped before, without the need to use irony as an excuse for anything. The 'Vroom Vroom’ EP (produced by SOPHIE, MNDR and Jodie Harsh), which came with the announcement of Charli’s new label, Vroom Vroom Recordings that focuses on the release of “experimental pop” music, seems like an extension of the ideas presented on her first two record, or some sort of “update” of that sound, and it definitely makes the connection between mainstream pop music and dance music that leans on the most experimental side work perfectly, and many other popstars will follow her path shortly.

#02. Amnesia Scanner - 'AS'
Genre: UK Bass, Glitch Hop, Post-Industrial, Grime, Trap
Label: Young Turks || Country: Finland
Mystery in Electronic music has, in the latest years, became smething almost essential. And “mysterious” is a word that could describe Amnesia Scanner – none of their press photos included them, they didn’t give interviews, and until recently we didn’t knew who was behind the project, where they came from or anything else. But with their proper debut EP, ‘AS’, prove that they can get away from anonimity (and the concept of “futuristic aesthetics” as well, whatever that’s supposed to mean in 2016), in order to make a body of work that feels different from anything I’ve heard before. This is not only their best work to date, but also probably one of the best Electronic releases of the year.

#01. Carly Rae Jepsen - 'Emotion Side B'
Genre: Dance-Pop, Synthpop, Electropop, Contemporary R&B, Freestyle
Label: Interscope || Country: Canada
I am still surprised by the extremely positive reception that Canadian singer and songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen’s 2015 album ‘E·MO·TION’, not only on the Internet (which many memes based on the record, but also by the critics, there was practically no publication that didn’t have Carly’s LP on their best of lists last year, despite not being an enormous chart success, it was one of the most acclaimed albums of 2015. And rightfully so. Therefore, as a gift for her new and old fans, Carly decided to release ‘E·MO·TION Side B’, an EP with 8 tracks that didn’t make the final cut for the album, most of which were never released before. It’s not the most cohesive work ever, but the eight tracks are as good as any of those on the main LP. Despite being a collection of B sides and track that didn’t make it to her third album, this is one of the best pop releases of 2016.

Lorenzo has an... interesting EP cover. Really enjoyed that song though, the beginning made me think of the start of an arcade game where the lil main character is running on screen.
Vroom Vroom still to me is such a strange EP for Charli, even though in a lot of ways it makes sense? I actually really like Trophy from it, even though a lot of people don't as much. The title track still reigns supreme.
Carly always wins! Queen of EPs & queen of critics & queen of giving gifts to her fans!! I appreciate Fever being your highlight pick, I really really love that one too (tho I have one song I would put above it).
