My general understanding is that the US dominates the world when it comes to medical advancements, and much of that is attributed to the ability to profit from new inventions/treatments.

And it makes sense. What incentive do people have to spend **** loads of money to find cures when they won't be compensated? It would be a terrible investment for anyone/any company that doesn't want to throw away money.

First off, it's a legal move, so it doesn't need "justification". I'm just saying that this is certainly not an isolated event. It's how the US health industry industry works.

The US health industry is a double edged sword. (Again, based on my understanding) The reason this medication, like many others even exists is drive in part by the desire to help others ,and equally, if not more from the desire to profit from helping others.


If you remove the financial incentive, you remove most of the innovation.

You're right from a business perspective, but only if you're looking at the one-dimensional "how much money do I get back?" side of things.

Sometimes instead of thinking like just a businessperson, company leaders should also act as humans. Public image and consumer trust are important factors in any industry!
