Take Care is fine and better than Thank Me Later, but Drake always picks the most monotonous productions to match his monotonous flow.
I personally prefer the Childish Gambino and J. Cole records over his, but it's still a good CD.
That's all I'm saying. People act like I'm calling the CD a monstrosity, but in reality I just feel like it lacked something. He's always been a very monotone rapper so for him to arrange some of his songs the way he chose to, didn't really work out as much as I had hoped.
If that wannabe hipster prick hadn't rated it 0/100, BTW would probably be around 74.
The best was when Pitchfork didn't even bother reviewing BTW, only to randomly give it big praise in their TTT review after they were done trashing the album.
The first half slays and then the album falls apart after the 6th track, which is catastrophic for an album with only 11 tracks (Standard).
At least Loud was consistent throughout.
But I listen to R&B and Rap way more than I listen to pop. I do appreciate the fact that Drake really brought something new to the table, but I just wasn't feeling it. I'm not saying I don't like the CD, I just don't like it as much as I would have hoped... especially that it's one of the few CDs I actually spent money on.
Its more about personal taste, which I can accept that ours is miles different...i think it got all the love it deserved...

I love The Black Keys but all they do is recycle and retool '70s rock songs. Do they ever get criticism for that, or is that only reserved for popstars?

Initial reviews and year-end lists are always contradictory, partially because initial reviews are determined by one person, whereas a year-end list is determined by a "staff."
I'm actually not surprised at the list. When it comes to direction, depth, and dedication, Drake has all three, but he does occasionally strays away from his direction to put some kind of song that will get people to listen (i.e. "Take Care" and "Make Me Proud" featuring two of his most prominent co-stars in his life.) While all the others seemed to go the "appease the fans" direction, substitute depth for popular-sound, and throw dedication into their style out the window. All, but Adele, Gaga, and Avril deserve the scores they received.

We All Want Love, Drunk On Love, and Watch 'N Learn are some of the best tracks on the CD and fall towards the end. It's very consistent. In fact, Farewell is filler, but it's still a good song. I consider it to be very consistent at least more consistent than LOUD. I was never one of the ones here for Raining Men and Complicated.

This is kinda true, what they do is absolute perfection within their limits, but it doesn't reinvent the wheel. I think TFM is a pop album in a similar vein, in that it is a slimmed down, tight collection of fantastic songs that flow well, and it did not get an 85 on metacritic.
