This is really Lykke Li? It's Incredibly good the album, it seems that she suffered a total metamorphosis: voice, lyrics, arrangements, all has grown up, everything has evolved, everything changed. She managed to delve much into the music but now being much more daring. Seriously, I'm surprised and I haven't even finished listening to all album. This is the kind of talent that millions of people should recognize. ![worship](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/971600d3.gif)

Wounded Rhymes Reviews
The Guardian
Quote:
Listening to Swedish pop star Lykke Li's follow-up to 2008's debut Youth Novels, it's easy to forget that she's still only 24-years-old. There's an earnestness and weight to the album that simultaneously gives it its focus, but also makes the listener yearn for some light amidst the bleak post-breakup laments. On Little Bit, the hypnotic centrepiece of her debut, she was "a little bit in love", while here "sadness is her boyfriend", the album recorded in the aftermath of an unrequited love affair. Thankfully, sadness tends to suit her, with producer Björn Yttling (he of Peter Björn and John fame) encasing the songs in a heady mix of primal drums, tinpot percussion, scratchy guitars and, on the excellent Love Out of Lust, a desolate whistle solo. Lyrically, Li flits between aggressor (Get Some's provocative "I'm your prostitute, you gonna get some") and victim (all of Sadness Is a Blessing), while the closing Silent My Song features a line that sums up Li's own approach to songwriting: "You see pain like it is pleasure, like a work of art". The pain was worth it.

An outstanding album which improves upon the Swedish singer’s great debut.
Despite acres of critical acclaim, Lykke Li’s debut album Youth Novels barely registered with the public outside of the Swedish singer’s home country. A tender blend of the funky, the sensual and the elliptical, the 2008 record will probably be discovered by gleeful new fans shortly after this second album kicks the singer’s profile up several notches.
Wounded Rhymes is another outstanding album, slightly better and definitely bigger than Youth Novels. Although there is a level of subtlety at work here far more sophisticated than most mainstream releases, the sound’s sheer size is almost overwhelming.
Driving, booming percussion, including much ominous pounding of kettle drums, is prominent in many songs, from the stirring call-to-arms opener Youth Knows No Pain to the thrillingly voyeuristic single I Follow Rivers. When these cascading beats combine with Lykke’s often bleak or malevolent lyrics, the tunes resemble a haunted wall of sound, like Phil Spector hijacking a ghost train.
Lykke’s voice occasionally recalls that of Dusty Springfield. She certainly tackles the uncertainties and unhappiness of love with as much pathos as the late soul siren. Love Out of Lust is sadder than eating alone in a public place, while the doo-wop lament of Unrequited Love is a thing of beauty and thankfully far less harrowing than its title.
The album’s centrepiece is Get Some, first unveiled online last October to grateful and justifiably excited listeners. Any song with lines like, "Like a shotgun needs an outcome / I’m your prostitute, you’re gon’ get some," must be immense, and it is. Percussion is at its most frenzied on the album, Lykke is at her most evil and decisive, and the whole thing throbs malignantly.
Special mention must also go to Jerome, the aural equivalent of Sandra Bernhard’s scary kidnapper in The King of Comedy, and Silent My Song. The latter is the only time fellow Swede alt-heroes The Knife are an overt influence. Their trademark industrial clank and foghorn/didgeridoo synth sound are all over the song like cheese on toast, while lyrics like, "I can’t tell if I am living or just holding on," would please Karin Andersson.
With Adele’s chart success, PJ Harvey’s solid new material and the possibility of a new Kate Bush album, 2011 is shaping up to be a terrific year for strong, distinctive female voices. If Wounded Rhymes brings Lykke Li huge success, it will be richly deserved.

When the Swedish pop ingenue Lykke Li first arrived in 2007 at all of 21, she was an adorable little thing, singing and shimmying with gumption. Her debut album, 2008's Youth Novels, was as resolute and irrepressible as the best of her compatriots -- Robyn, Nina Persson, Jens Lekman, even ABBA. And she enchanted a few notables along the way, including the rapper Drake, who sampled her "Little Bit" for an arresting mixtape deep cut. But there was a chill in the music -- sax skronks, woozy keyboards, Kewpie-ish voice lurching to the brink of sadness -- that her co-conspirator Bjorn Yttling helped install to keep things from ever getting too cute.
Three years and one broken heart later and that chill is hitting bone. Li's new album, Wounded Rhymes, is equal parts seething ice princess and lonely snowwoman, vacillating almost track by track between fury and despondence over a scotched relationship. "Unrequited Love," a sort of Spector-ish torch song, with its lightly strummed guitar and girl-group shoowop-shoowas, is one of the year's saddest, prettiest moments. And then on follow-up "Get Some," for which Yttling imports heaving tribal drums, Li is back on the prowl, tenaciously conflating herself with a prostitute as she writhes all over the track. The dual objectives -- weep for me, fear me -- collide throughout, creating a dicey, but gripping album. So much for the cutie-pie routine.

Swedish musician Lykke Li, from 2008’s much acclaimed Youth Novels, will release her sophomore album, Wounded Rhymes, and will face one of the dreadful tests of music - evading the sophomore slump.
Of course, she succeeds.
The drums in all of these tracks - except for one mostly beatless track - reverberate with bold weight, almost tribal, sometimes recalling celebrations by the surf. This kind of percussion lends to whatever mood the song happens to fall in, whether it be the organ rockery of “Youth Knows No Pain” or the paramount sound of “Jerome.” The pounding on the album’s single, “Get Some,” makes the song sound like a good choice for use on Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill 3, if the film is something like the first - just imagine it.
Perhaps it can’t be avoided that Lykke Li sings like Peter Morén and Björn Yttling - is that just the Swedish sound? - because Yttling produced the album. It’s not at all a bad thing, unless you dislike Peter, Björn and John. “I Follow Rivers” fits with this most of all, probably. On the other hand, “Unrequited Love” almost takes on the harmonic qualities of a band like Fleet Foxes. Make what you will of that. The only low point of the album seems to be in the last half, where “Sadness is a Blessing” brings on the female singer’s Cliché of the Boyfriend (see: Best Coast’s “Boyfriend,” C.S.S.’s “Music is My Hot Hot Sex,” and The Bird and the Bee’s “F---ing Boyfriend”). “I Know Places” could be hit or miss, too alike to soft tracks found in Twilight these days, or perfectly fine example of Lykke Li's beautiful songcraft.

Swedish songstress Lykke Li decamped to L.A. to write her second album, but it's hardly a paean to sunshine: ''Sadness is my boyfriend,'' a brokenhearted Li sings, sounding like a Nordic hybrid of Lou Reed and Darlene Love. While her 2008 breakout, Youth Novels, was quirky and coy, Wounded Rhymes is hungry, dark, dirty: ''I'm a prostitute, you gon' get some,'' she chants over ominous drums on the subversive single ''Get Some.'' It's futile to deny her.
