Not too many shocks here. Carrie and P!nk were obvious #1 and #2s. Owl City's 3rd place is not due to their newest album, The Midsummer Station, but more due to Ocean Eyes, their previous effort. It logged 80 more plays than TMS. Kelly almost snagged the number three position with the help of You Love Me, Catch My Breath, and People Like Us, but fell short. I expect her to place just as high in next year's plays chart. The top five is closed by Maroon 5, who's latest album helped them bounce ahead of Adele narrowly. Key tracks such as Sad, Lucky Strike, and Daylight helped M5 take the top 5 spot.
Just under the top 5 is Adele. Even though she had no album release this year, Adele slayed my iTunes with songs such as Set Fire to the Rain, Someone Like You, and more recently, Skyfall. Cher Lloyd was also buoyed not by an album, but by my constant love for her songs Superhero and Beautiful People. Number eight will not be discussed. Ellie Goulding's album Halcyon (which I just bought) helped her take #9. Next year I expect her even higher, as I cannot stop playing Figure 8, Anything Could Happen, and I Need Your Love. Coldplay stole the #10 position from Snow Patrol very recently and I rediscovered my love for Fix You. Flawless song
Snow Patrol's appearance is only partially due to their recent album. Although Called Out in the Dark received a lot of plays, it was not the most played song during this period. Chasing Cars, their older hit, helped them stay so high. Clay Aiken is all Christmas music Adam Lambert's appearance is a little shocking, but he is there due to Trespassing and Never Close Our Eyes. Diana DeGarmo I refound her first and only album Blue Skies and couldn't stop listening to it. Marianas Trench is shocking. I didn't care all that much for their music this time around. Their older tracks helped them make this list.
Emeli Sande's amazing album helped her take #16. Songs such as Clown, My Kind of Love, and Next To Me gave her the spot. Stars released an album (which I still haven't listened to) this year, but they were kept here by older songs such as Your Ex-Lover is Dead, The Night Starts Here, and Dead Hearts. Train's smash hits 50 Ways to Say Goodbye and Drive By held them up. Young the Giant was really only here because of one song . Cough Syrup received over 100 plays this year. Katy Perry is a bit of a shock. I am in no ways a stan of her, and only really like a few of her songs. Wide Awake, The One that Got Away, and Not Like the Movies helped her up here.
Allison Iraheta is a bit of a shock too. Her album is now 3 years old and I'm still playing it religiously. Just Like You and Pieces are key tracks. Fastball is also a shock. They haven't had a new album in a while, but their catalog tracks are so good that I couldn't stop playing them. Hunter Hayes is a newbie and snuck in with the help of Storm Warning and More Than I Should. Death Cab For Cutie deserves their bottom-tiered spot as they have a nearly flawless catalog that I still have to listen to more. Last, and probably least, is Karmin. They're only here because of Brokenhearted and I Told You So. Impressive, I guess?
Now that this novel that no one will read is over, the most played albums of 2012 is coming in a little bit!

Carrie literally slaughtered the competition here, achieving only 4 plays less than triple the amount of the second place album. Blown Away did not get out of my head this whole year. The whole album is a masterpiece. The Truth About Love rose quickly to the second position after it's recent release. It's still going strong as the #2 album since this chart was obtained as well. Expect both of these to remain strong next year. The next two albums are catalog ones. Play On and Some Hearts are from 2009 and 2005 respectively. They have remained in the top 5 for every month that I've had last.fm and are no exception here either. Closing out the top 5 is Cher Lloyd's Sticks and Stones. A solid album, Cher's momentum has slowed drastically as more than half of her plays of the album were from before June.
21 sits within the top 10 for the second year running, being #4 last year. It's momentum has surprisingly not slowed as I listen to at least one track every day. Carnival Ride is another catalog album that I just can't get enough of. Just a Dream, a song from that album was my most played song from June 2010 until March 2012, when it was passed by Good Girl. I rediscovered my love for Breakaway again this year and had it on repeat from September on. Because of You>>>>>>> The top 10 is closed by P!nk's previous album, Funhouse. Funhouse somehow actually increases from 2011 to 2012, as it moves 20-10. Impressive longevity.
Ocean Eyes also increases from the previous year, leaping 15-11. This album is one of my favourites of all time and is completely flawless front to back. P!nk's earlier album I'm Not Dead jumps big time from 2011, going 37-12. This album sums up a large portion of my life, and I repeated it largely due to nostalgia. Stronger sits pretty at #13. It decreases slightly from #11 last year, being locked out of the top 10 yearly album charts. Halcyon is another 2012 album that is increases greatly even now. I expect an increases next year. Clay Aiken's Christmas album is a little embarrassing being here. I adore Christmas music, and the album is solid, so it moves 6-15 this year.
Trespassing is another new album that was extremely frontloaded and gets very few plays now even though it's a solid album. Owl City's newest album bows in a lot lower than Ocean Eyes and is highly influenced by the masterpiece Bombshell Blonde. Emeli Sande makes her first appearance with her flawless album, buoyed strongly by My Kind of Love. Maroon 5's earlier album moves 8-19 this year and is still played frequently, impressive longevity. Owl City's middle album drops strongly this year, moving 3-20 below the older Ocean Eyes. The album is solid, but has few repeat-worthy tracks.
Snow Patrol's Eyes Open sneaks in barely due to a few key tracks. Coldplay's newest album jumps into the set due to Paradise and Charlie Brown. Both are amazing tracks that were on repeat for a large portion of the year. Adele's older album falls 10-22 this year, but is still being played often. I expect it to scrape through next year as well. Hunter Hayes' only commercial album scrapes in barely due to Storm Warning and More Than I Should. The final album that makes the list is Coldplay's Greatest Hits. Songs such as The Scientist, Fix You, and Clocks helped this older album bounce in at the bottom.
Top tracks will be coming tomorrow!

2012 album tracks - 5
2012 singles - 12
Songs from before 2012 - 37
A lot of older tracks occupy the bottom half of this list. The only singles from 2012 are those which I liked enough to play, but probably heard too much of on the radio to overplay. No real shockers here, nothing that interesting.
Songs 49-1 coming up soon!

Blown Away totally dominated everything this year. The song is already my #1 song on last.fm of all time, quickly followed by Good Girl. Both are from this year. In fact, all of my top 22 songs on last.fm of all time were all located on this list (5 of those were released this year). Typical embarrassments are found in all the Disney songs . Other than that, no shame
Next set of my singles of the year coming soon-ish.

#80
367 Points
Katy Perry - Part of Me
Weeks on Chart: 13 Peak: 18
Bashed by many for being generic and horribly written, Part of Me is actually a decent song. The lyrics are a little lackluster, but I looked past them for the catchy chorus
#79
368 Points
Foster the People - Don't Stop (Colour on the Walls)
Weeks on Chart: 8 Peak: 8
Foster the People really delivered this time around. They gave some great hits such as this one, which rose fast and fell quick. I hear the song almost daily on the radio now and still love it
#78
377 Points
Lana Del Rey - Born to Die
Weeks on Chart:11 Peak: 26
Lana Del Rey is seriously overrated, but that didn't stop her from delivered some great songs, like this one. Born to Die is by far the highlight of her overrated album and was good enough to remain on the charts for 11 weeks.
#77
378 Points
Hedley - Kiss You Inside Out
Weeks on Chart: 14 Peak: 30
This song was a major smash here in Canada. You couldn't go anywhere for an hour without hearing it on the radio. It's a cute song that's a little cheesy, but that's okay.
#76
396 Points
Lauren Alaina - Georgia Peaches
Weeks on Chart: 9 Peak: 18
The second and final entrance by Lauren here is her faster, happier Georgia Peaches. It's a cute song that also flopped, giving her kind of a ****** career start. Not bad though
#75
427 Points
Marianas Trench - Desperate Measures
Weeks on Chart: 19 Peak: 33
Despite staying on the chart for almost 20 weeks, Desperate Measures never reached the top 30. It's a good song that got a little tiresome after being on the radio constantly.
#74
431 Points
Nicki Minaj - The Boys (feat. Cassie)
Weeks on Chart: 7 Peak: 11
It's kind of embarrassing to have two Nicki songs on my countdown, especially since I basically loathe her For some reason, this song stuck with me. Cassie's part is heaven and Nicki's last verse is flawless. The Borbz was another flawless rendition
#73
467 Points
Carrie Underwood - Two Black Cadillacs
Weeks on Chart: 5 Peak: 2
It's probably kinda shocking to see a Carrie song outside the top ten for me, but it's only gonna rise next year Since TBC was released so late in the year, it has only spent 5 weeks on my chart so far, giving it significantly less points than other songs. It's coming for the top next year
#72
475 Points
Kelly Clarkson - Catch My Breath
Weeks on Chart: 7 Peak: 7
Catch My Breath is definitely, 100% a grower. I loathed the song at first and thought it was boring and typical Kelly. After a few listens I got really into it and love it more than any of her Stronger era singles (barring Dark Side). It's definitely gonna be in the top 100 next year as well
#71
477 Points
One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful
Weeks on Chart: 13 Peak: 16
I'm definitely embarrassed to have any 1D on this chart (let alone 4 songs...). I totally loathe this song now. It's cheesy and terrible. I must have been too distracted by Zayn to realize that this song sucks. Somehow, I let it chart for 13 weeks and get higher than Carrie and Kelly
The next set will be coming in a day or two
