Lmao! But aaliyah wasnt that dark. She was light skinned as well. The girl playing her is probably a shade lighter. Thats why i never understood the zendaya shade. Very true, however Aaliyah is obviously a black woman. Those who have been selected to play her look all mixed up. It's kind of like when JLo played Selena and fans were upset because she wasn't actually Mexican.

Actually, while Aaliyah is reffered to as African-American, it seems to be agreed on that her mother is both Native American and African American, while her grandmother is Native American. Here is a picture of all three of them. Both her mother (on the left) and especially her grandmother were lighter than Aaliyah.

For "light-skinned" blacks to exist some form of mixing had to take place in their past. Many African - Americans actually do have Native American, White, etc. ancestry and not all of them are even necessarily fair depending on how the genetics work out...which is why you have brown skinned people with blue or green eyes...

I have no hopes for this film. It seems like a trashy made for T.V. film. Wendy will get her check and be done. Aaliayh's legacy deserved more...

Not necessarily. There are light-skinned Africans and yes I'm well aware. I know of a few Native and White ancestors myself.

I have hope. There's nothing we can do about it now - no need for a moral argument, too late. But I'll support anything with Li's name on it.

The fact that her family disapproves is enough for me to not support this film, also NO one she was close with is attached to the film so how can you accurately tell someone's life story when those that were there during her rise don't have an input in this film.

To all the haters stop with this nonsense that she wasn't that big, it's clear she was big for her to be discussed over a decade after her death with only 7 years in the business(a 5 year gap between album 2 and 3 with some soundtrack hits thrown inbetween). From 2000 up until her death she was everywhere focused and hard at work and was gearing up to cross over which would have been a plus since she had an established and loyal fan base already locked.
