I understand that not every Christian is intolerant. But the texts are indeed intolerant.
(There's a reason why people pick and choose which passages to believe and which not to...which doesn't really make sense in and of itself.)
And Christianity's "moral compass" revolves around an ancient text that is ancient and hateful.
But believe what you want to believe. I think I'm going to stop arguing now, because I've gotten my point across, maybe, kind of.

One of their foundations (that they say on the site) is that they do not adhere to any set rules by an official. Their minister is a lesbian, and this is states in their mission statement: "We are proud to be a welcoming congregation. Whatever your ethnicity, class, gender or sexual orientation, we welcome you!"
I can see how many would perceived the CATHOLIC church to be less than good, but there's no justification for the hatred of all Christians when there are churches like this everywhere.
Edit: And they fly a pride flag every sunday!

That means nothing though. That church does not take the whole biblical context into consideration. They're as much of a christian church as the West Boro Baptist church.
According to scripture, they are contradicting the bibles ban on homosexuality. And I know there are plenty of arguments about translation errors and the like, but the bible even states that god will protect his word so believing in such drastic translation errors is contradicting.

There's no doubting Jesus existed, he is a historical figure.

Good point. I've also noticed that different denominations within Christianity are a lot more lenient and show more compassion than others. But truthfully it depends on the person.

Like previously stated already, I have to "label" Christians as agreeing with the documents that form the basis of their religion (bible, for Catholics it would alsobe the Catechism). There are surely good Christians who don't act in the ways and beliefs outlined in these texts, however they still identify as Christian. They label themselves which comes with a load of implications. So if they are acting tolerant, it is actually a contradiction to their religion and thus it is hypocritical.
|
Hmm, but what about those who just follow the teachings of Jesus and don't necessarily live day to day by the bible. Are they Christian or just spiritual? It really is just a label or at least it is to me. I've seen lots of people who say they are Christian but don't really celebrate the religious holidays or don't really know what they are about. I guess in that sense it is hypocritical, but we as humans can all be hypocritical under different circumstances.

No. If there is a protestor who is civil and a protestor who is violent, they share a common set of beliefs: they are in agreement that they disagree with a certain issue. Their actions differed but that doesn't mean they don't feel the same way.
If a Christian acts immorally, it doesn't mean all Christians act immoral. However, if two people identify as Christian, a religion which is known to be significantly in tolerant, then both of those people must represent these notions or they wouldn't have made it a point to be known as a Christian. If you don't agree with everything in a religion, why would you be apart of it?

This is exactly it. The issues all lie within the hypocrisy and contradictions of a "non-hateful Christianity."

We're having this conversation because you're trying to imply Christianity is based off the character Jesus alone and not his fathers word.

And why are some people acting that only the Bible has "intolerant" and "hateful" texts, has anyone seen the Koran?

False. Every bit of evidence brought forth that he existed has been debunked and/or not inclusive enough to warrant definite existence.

Tolerance is stupidity. You cannot be tolerant of all things. Everyone has beliefs and things defined as "right" and "wrong", things which are acceptable and those which are not. We as a society come together in a pseudo-contract or "social pact" and establish what kind of government and society we shall have, so that we can co-exist peacefully. The savages who were sovereigns of themselves abdicate their sovereignty to the state, who then decides what is acceptable or unacceptable. Most states today are intolerant of rape, and pedophilia, and theft and so on, to the detriment of those people who feel entitled to such acts.
So yes, Christianity is intolerant. It establishes absolute right and wrongs and advocates separation from those things considered prejudicial to one's well being.

The whole point of this thread was to support non-hateful Christians, and I just pointed out a full church of them. And without being disrespectful (truly, I think everyone should believe what they want ), nothing we present will change your opinion, but there are many people who identify as Christian and use Jesus as a model for tolerance and respect, which people in this thread can attest to.
EDIT: The Bible is by no means perfect, but nothing is. Why should we hold that against the people who try their best?

The fact of the matter is, most Christians are only Christians because they were indoctrinated since birth to believe in God, Jesus, and the Bible (at least those in the US). The reason so many Christians are offended by the very notion that God does not exist is because it challenges the very ideals they've been taught and told to believe since their birth. The truth about Christianity and other types of organized religions is that they're ********. Religion does nothing but tell you how to live your life, who you should love, who you should accept, and how you should treat others. Why do you need a book to tell you to treat other people with respect? Why do you need a book to tell you what is wrong and what is right? The Bible is filled with bigotry, misogyny, and hypocrisies. Yes, you can be a loving Christian, but the fact that you're a "loving Christian" contradicts the very religion you claim to follow.

Because this thread is about Christianity, not Islam.
And don't try to lessen Christianity's issues by comparing it to a very closely-related religion.

The Koran doesn't have such an influence in American politics (which is peoples biggest problem with Christianity for most places english speaking.)
I could give two ***** if you Christians want to hate everyone you look at, but I'll give a **** if you guys are also defended by the government.

gorls!! Christianity is more than just reading the bible! Have y'all even heard of the holy spirit? Do you know what it feels like when you are filled with it? Some of y'all need to pray real hard to be filled with the holy ghost and you might change your cynical minds!!

Never said that, they're definitely based on both. But Jesus teachings are what guide our Church.
