I just saw Smashed last weekend and want Mary Elizabeth Winstead to be nominated so bad but everyone is ignoring her film She definitely had one of the standout performances of the year for me.
I absolutely agree! She was phenomenal, I hope she gets some Oscar love. She'll at least get some smaller awards this season, for sure.
Moonrise Kingdom is a shoe-in for a nomination for Best Motion Picture, and Wes Anderson could very well score a nod for Best Director.
But Paul Thomas Anderson and The Master should sweep the awards, to be honest.

I believe those films are going to be nominated for Best Motion Picture, Skyfall may as well. Same with Django Unchained if it turns out to be good.

Moonrise Kingdom has lost power. It was released way to early. I think Direction is going to Affleck, Spielberg, Lee, P.T. Anderson, and David O. Russell.
What i'm finding so funny about this season is the absolute lack of very strong Female leads, so different from last year.
This. I mean many of the usual female Oscar suspects are missing this year (Meryl, Kate, Nicole, etc).
Obviously JenLaw, Jessica and Marion are front runners at the moment. But as much as she is perfection, I can't see them giving her another one so soon. Should be interesting.
Generally, I only care about Lead Actress and Best Picture anyway.

Not much new info but pretty interesting nonetheless. I hope Marion get's the lead actress nomination She's getting some rave reviews but I need her steam to pick up.
I'm almost positive Marion Cotillard will win Best Actress this year. This Oscar season will be very influenced by SAG winners...voting for SAG goes out tomorrow...and Cotillard's peers love her. Noms for Sag will be announced December 12. I love JLaw and I think she did a wonderful job in SLP but it's not winning worthy imo. Nom worthy sure. If she was being considered for Winter's Bones this year I'd say she would have it in the bag.
You can discuss all that you want in here, but fact remains fact. Marion Godilard's gonna take that Oscar home for her heart-wrecking, record-breaking performance in Rust & Bone.
The only category I could EVER see Jessica Chastain win an Oscar for would be Best Supporting Actress. After all, she is just no A-list material, never was and never will be.
I LOVE Jennifer Lawrence and I'd be happy for her if she'd win the Oscar for Best Actress with SLP, BUT personally I wouldn't give her one for that role. Marion just shines more and gives more layers to her character without needing to over-act.
She definitely had one of the standout performances of the year for me.
