Lian Nishang (called in mainland China), also called Lian Nichang in Taiwan/Hongkong/Macau (traditional Chinese: 練霓裳; simplified Chinese: 练霓裳; pinyin: Liàn Nícháng / Liàn Nísháng; Jyutping: Lin6 Ngai4-soeng4), nicknamed "Jade Rakshasa" (traditional Chinese: 玉羅剎; simplified Chinese: 玉罗刹; pinyin: Yù Luóchà; Jyutping: Juk6 Lo4-caat3), is the titular protagonist of the novel. She was raised by wolves as an infant and was later adopted and tutored by Ling Muhua. Her prowess in swordplay and qinggong are legendary, and she uses her skills to deliver justice like a vigilante. Although she is beautiful in appearance, she is deadly, as her sword movements are extremely brutal and aggressive. She also metes out draconian punishments and torturous deaths to her enemies, projecting an image of herself as a menacing demoness in the jianghu. She becomes known as the "White Haired Demoness"after her hair turns white.
