Don't be mad that people only use Nirvana to seem edgier than others and prove they know more about music even though they listen to Justin Bieber, One Direction, Katy Perry, etc.

People seem to confuse a lot of this stuff. It's messy!

OT:
Nirvana was very influential to other rock bands, they helped usher in the new post-grunge era and people started looking towards the upper west coast for talent.
Tupac, Dre, etc. influenced a lot of other rap artists. I know people who, to this day, will say that 2001 is near the top of their greatest albums list.
I get that Nirvana was extremely fresh, they were icons, (and I'd now consider them legends of a sort), but it isn't like their influence is unparalleled?
Mariah has influenced a TON of upcoming singers, (and singers who already came up + went back down), just like how 2Pac / Biggie / Dre (and really that whole iconic west coast vs east coast thing) influenced millions of rappers, and even to this day.
tldr: They were huge but not the biggest in terms of influence.
