Brandy Talks 'Wildest Dreams' Single, Possible Drake Collabo, & Touring with Monica
After spending the years since 2008's "Human" largely away from the recording booth -- save for a brief foray into rap, under the name Bran'Nu -- Brandy is making a strong return to her R&B roots on the melodic, vocal-driven "Two Eleven" (Oct. 16, RCA Records).
Her first "Two Eleven" single, "Put It Down," is climbing the R&B/Hip-Hop charts. The Chris Brown-assisted song climbs from No. 22 to No. 16 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs this week. "I just felt like, [when] being gone for such a long time, you need to come back with something strong and shock people. Make them go, 'Wow, who is that? Oh my God, that's Brandy? I didn't' even know she can sound like that. Didn't know she would do a song like that?' Because It's completely different than anything I've ever done," Brandy said of "Put It Down."
This week, the singer released her second single, "Wildest Dreams." "It's about love. It's about falling in love with someone and it's almost like it's too good to be true. It's a mid-tempo. Sean Garrett did that one as well," she said. "I'm excited about that because it's like a 90s 2012 record."
Aside from Sean Garrett, "Two Eleven" is to feature a duet with Frank Ocean, production by Bangladesh, Jim Jonsin, Timbaland, and songriting by Rico Love and possibly Drake. "Drake did write a song, i haven't recorded it yet. But he did write I song that I absolutely love. We'll see if that happens," Brandy told The Juice.
Brandy plans to bring 'Two Eleven" to the stage but not before taking on a few acting opportunities, including her returning role on the sixth season of BET's The Game. "I'm trying to balance my acting career at the same time, so I'll probably go off and do the acting thing for a couple months and then tour right after that," she said. "With the Monica thing I didn't want to hold her up... that was one of the reasons I was thinking of pushing the tour because I want to be able to balance both... We're still working that out."
