+ some more Bey!
In 2014, just like any other year, we had a new crop of artists hit the scene and start their career in the mainstream. Even though some may become a one-hit-wonder, some completely disappear, and only a few actually move to the next step of success - well, that's all to be determined. These five definitely had the experience of becoming popular and deserved it, too.
5. Tove Lo Biggest single:Habits (Stay High) Favorite song:Timebomb Why she's great: With the amazing Habits (Stay High), which took forever for me to enjoy, her album shows that Tove is more than someone who can make a nice single by providing some quality bops. Queen of the year? No. Queen of the clouds? Yes.
4. Sam Smith Biggest single:Stay With Me Favorite song:Restart Why he's great: This was another grower for me. At my first listen of Stay With Me, I absolutely hated it, and I don't even really remember why. Once it started catching on to me, I later went into his album and found him to be a great asset to this year.
3. Iggy Azalea Biggest single:Fancy (feat. Charli XCX) Favorite song:Fancy (feat. Charli XCX) Why she's great: Not hearing about her at all before this year, Fancy caught me by surprise. I wasn't too sure about it at first, but then I quickly became addicted, which led to me eventually loving The New Classic as well as Reclassified.
2. Tinashe Biggest single:2 On (feat. ScHoolboy Q) Favorite song:Far Side of the Moon Why she's great: At first I thought Tinashe was just a standard, regular R&B artist, but after some massive hype from ATRL, I immediately got into her on listen #1 of Aquarius. She brings something new to the table and has the talent and music to make you fall in love.
1. 5 Seconds of Summer Biggest single:She Looks So Perfect Favorite song:Amnesia Why they're great: It's amazing how I immediately fell in love with this band. Providing a more pop-punk vibe than other comparable bands/groups like One Direction and The Vamps, their sound is incredibly fun, extremely addicting and just plain amazing.
