I don't think there's a misconception, I think it's a negative connotation.
Generic can mean a myriad of things, ranging from "cheap" to "uninspired."
And I believe that's what "Part of Me" is, and a large body of Teenage Dream: uninspired.
The two additional tracks that were just released are not, however.
