But I love what I love, and these songs each have their own demeanour, and the videos reflects the character of each song. I want every video to take you on a different journey. A different ride.
This right here feels like confirmation that she may be pulling a ST and doing a video for every song and a possible surprise release, like Kanye said.
No mention of any previous work apart from Rated R.
Quote:
Rated R was the masterpiece that birthed the Rihanna we know today: a brutal album teeming with disenchantment and incertitude, with stark, monochrome imagery to match. “It was a time in my life where I felt vulnerable and naked,” Rihanna admits. “I felt like the world was watching and that there was a spotlight on me. I felt confused. I knew I couldn’t make a happy album. It was like: it’s not the truth. It’s not real. I know I won’t feel like this forever, but this is how I feel right now.”
No. She is whatever she wants to be. That is an artist. She's discovered the industry is just a corporate machine, with people like YOU pigeonholing her into certain boxes so more people like you can consume for a minute and move on. She wants more than that. Being a legendary artist with a long lasting legacy requires more than that.
When was the last time Rihanna appeared to give any f*cks about appealing universally to anyone. It's been years.
The extreme self awareness, the number of times she supposedly "cackles", essentially admitting to the R8 trolling, the subtle dismissal of Taylor Swift, the tea on Charli XCX, opening up about Rated R, being honest about her previous material and her future aims.
And this passage:
Quote:
So the night before she shot the cover for that third album, she cut her hair. “We sent [the label] the images. Their reaction was, ‘These are way too edgy. What are we going to do with these? We can’t use these.’ But the photoshoot was done. And we weren’t going to do it again.” The accompanying music featured the former high school beauty queen likening love to rehab and burning some bloke’s house down “I had to rebel and do it my way,” she remembers. “And I had to jump ship in order to achieve that. Without permission.”
I respect her for trying to be more artistic and everything
But she's a damn pop star, and she was the best at it, her new tracks are good but mediocre compared to WFL, Diamonds, Stay, Talk that Talk, Pour it up, etc etc
Slay does critics Rihanna, but if you wanna have a long career and become a legend, your old stuff is your legacy, not this stuff
1. A Night
2. Just Feel It
3. Love on the Brain
4. James Joint
5. Higher
6. FourFiveSeconds
7. Interlude 3
8. Bitch Better Have My Money
9. Pop
10. Pop
11. Pop
12. Urban
13. American Oxygen

Is so very eye opening.
If you ever read her magazine interviews from 2007/08 all she talked about was cutting her damn hair.
