I think her singles have been pretty "risky." Not in the sense that any of them sounded like anything but something that would smash the pop charts, but the singles this era are pretty varied in their sounds.

It's not like the TD - album does not have songs that are different from the singles.

Circle The Drain, Not Like The Movies, Pearl - those are songs that are not made for partying, those songs have a message und are quite uncommercial (CTD and NLTM more than Pearl though).

People like Linda Perry (who I actually like) should at least check the record out before judging.

I find this a bit ironic since she single-handedly made the self-esteem ballad lose its substance by making two albums full of the same damn song for P!nk and then Christina. Her **** ass can sit the **** down. He really bothers me.

Anyway, I sort of agree with her. But then again, most pop music has little to no substance, especially these days.

I agree. All of her singles this era besides "California Gurls" are pretty good pop songs, especially the title track.

Difference is, 90% of Linda's output isn't just "Get The Party Started"-type of songs, whereas Katy has probably less than handful of songs at best with any semblance of substance.

People wouldn't go after Katy so much if she gave us more "Thinking of You" and "Not Like The Movies", and less "California Gurls" and "TGIF". I mean, a silly pop song is something we all like to do with once in a while, but it's really not good for an artist when that's all their music seems to consist of.
