I voted yes, because I guess I just can't see how she's a good popstar.
She's really not offering anything new, especially with this latest album. Her vocals, IMO, are borderline grating, & nothing about her really stands out anymore. I don't mean any shade by saying this... just being honest. She's not clicking with me this era, & I think it's because she's doing what everyone else is doing. It's boring.

"Hips Don't Lie" broke that record because it was the first global song of the digital age. It's not as impressive when you note that digital single sales were just taking off. WW sold a **** ton of copies when there were no singles to sell, sold the album, etc. I guess most people think HDL was bigger, though, because it was bigger in the U.S.

Sis, don't try to make anyone look petty when you were marginalizing some woman's entire career. TWOTW sold 8M U.S., 2M Europe and barely charted elsewhere outside of Australia/New Zealand (less than 250k combined in those countries). If you have a breakdown that shows 2M more, I'd love to see it on my wall.
Just admit she was relevant at multiple points in her career, like when HDL was #1 song of the year WW, Whenever, Wherever was #1 song of the year WW, Laundry Service was #1 album of the year WW, etc. and we can move on.

undeniably
america clearly isnt here for her, and while she still has a modicum of pull WW, its nothing close to where she used to be. her chart positions in europe for this new album havent been all that impressive. i keep hearing how 'global she is, but the current charts that Ive seen give her just okay at best evidence to back up that claim

"sis", I think I'll take actual sources and receipts rather than an ATRL member who avidly hates Beyoncé's breakdown, thanks

And I never said her songs/albums weren't big at some point, but as a career as a whole she's never been that huge. She's never been associated with the A listers of the pop world such as Bey, Brit, Rih, Madonna etc. She's just kind of been there

Exactly. I hate how she gets a pass and is "the most global pop girl!!11" just because she isn't US born

It is still very impressive
And digital sales weren't really taking off until 2008 tbh. I don't remember iTunes being all that big of a deal for Fergie, Christina, Gwen, or even Britney. So no, you're wrong with that.

Not outside the uk and US. her main problem is how it takes FOREVER for her to release music more often. Shakira releases albums every four years and her promo.(like now) is messy. I dont think she will ever have another HDL hit but i do hope this era will end well its too early to jump into conclusions. Even if she totally flops she will always have the latin market.

Of course 'Yes' is winning. It's funny how you think by voting 'Yes' you're fave will be more relevant than her.
She obviously didn't. First of all she has never been huge in the US, Sale el Sol opened with similar numbers and that era was gold: multiple smashes and great sales WW.
Second 'Can't Remember To Forget You' was a hit, just because it wasn't #1 everywhere, doesn't mean it wasn't.
Third point: She just reached #1 in Facebook Likes and Youtube views. I don't think that's fading.

Sadly in the US yes. In the US she is part of pop culture, all thanks to having 1 of the most successful crossover in Latin culture. She is just stubborn and lazy at times. There are still some creative neurons in there, she just doesn't make the best choices sometimes. which I thought would change this era after signing with roc nation. But things happen.. SPANISH album tour next?
