Twice the opportunities to generate its record breaking numbers. That's what I mean by expected. It was obvious that it was going to do big numbers based on preorders alone. And this discussion isn't about other franchises (most of whom aren't in the Top 5) but Pokémon and GTA.
Pokémon has generated more overall on one line of handheld system (GameBoy through 3DS) in its lifespan.

Still even with the amount of money they have they're not as successful.
Rockstar released GTA on multiple platforms to appeal to different audience. For example if you used the game on old gen, you may buy it on new gen (PS4 and One), and even PC for PC players etc... but in the end the are people who only play on PC can still buy and play the game if they don't have consoles and the same goes for the other consoles. But nobody in their right mind would buy the exact same game on every platform unless they're running a business
On the other hand, Pokemon get their coins from reselling and recreating the same game to the same audience over, and over and over again. If they didn't do that would they still be as big?
